omg i live in michigan and theres a high wind warning today with wind gusts of 65 mph that took out power at my house and traffic lights its crazy so im at panera now but the wifi is soooo slow and i cannot login my email.
They just sent out another batch ten minutes ago, so keep checking. My child’s application was for A&S and just heard. Not sure if they are doing them by school or not. Good luck to all.
DS received the CV!!! Best of luck to everyone else!
didnt get it oh well the cv isnt even a full ride you still have to pay $20,000 for room and board and extra stuff per year guess im going to umich my state school for 27k go blueee!
@Eeeee127 Michigan is a great school! We had to rule it out after admission because my child didn’t get a merit scholarship (just Honors Program) and the way they calculate aid, no need-based aid, but it is not clearly better or worse than Vandy IMO. This is all a weird process; I can’t see much rhyme or reason to which schools have offered what programs or money to my child but not to others on CC here and vice-versa, but getting into Michigan and being able to pay in-state rates is great, and you should be really proud! In the end, we all just want one good fit that is affordable for our families, I think. Embrace your amazing option to attend UM for a (relatively) bargain price! Best of luck to you.
@sursumcorda thank you! yes i am very grateful to be able to attend umich at an in state price. i think umich is actually more well rounded than vanderbilt and has very strong programs in medicine, law, business, and engineering , sports, spirit, parties lol, etc. but its ranked lower than vandy because umich is a public even though many of its programs are top 10 in the country. vanderbilt is stil a great school though and the nashville and the friendliness is awesome! good luck to your child!
Somehow received the scholarship…stunned & happy right now.
@supercilious congrats!
DS also got CV! Time to visit the campus.

At this level of hyper-selectivity, the decisions are not random but they are highly unpredictable. A particular kid’s profile may fit/resonate with one particular scholarship at one particular school, but will not resonate with lots of other schools/scholarships.
That’s definitely been the case with my kid. Connected at Vandy for a Chancellor scholarship, but missed the boat for scholarships at many other schools which are ranked higher/lower/same as Vandy. In many cases, kid wasn’t even nominated to compete for a scholarship.
@Eeeee127 thanks
@srk2017 We are also looking a rushed visit at the end of the month! (We live so far away the travel will take a day and a half each way- assuming all goes well on the roads to the airport in another state.) We had given up hope on Vanderbilt because of money before today’s offer, so we kind of stopped looking into it much lately as my child was getting rather overwhelmed by this whole process and hated getting attached to places and then finding they are not affordable i.e. didn’t win the merit scholarships to them. But with this new option, I think my child needs to at least see the campus and talk to administrators in person to make such an important decision.
@sursumcorda - We are in same boat. We live in CA and haven’t visited before.
Didn’t get it.
Biomedical Engineering. ACT 36, UW GPA 4.0, NMF
Congrats to all who did! Good luck to everyone on decision day!
I was in the same place as several of you last year – Got the CV scholarship, but had never visited campus and lived pretty far away in CA. I was also offered Reagents at UCB’s College of Chemistry, but ultimately decided to go with Vandy. Feel free to PM me for more specific questions.
Has anyone else not received an email yet?
Absolutely stunned I received CV!!! Congratulations to all others who received this award! Is there a specific weekend for scholarship winners to visit campus?
@Gandhi21 We are wondering that as well. Most of the tours are all booked up through the end of the month, so we can’t register for them. I think I am going to email the contact in the award letter to ask if they will “work in” the CV winners to the tours/'Dore for a Day type stuff. If not, it seems pretty expensive to travel there only to wander alone around campus! I suspect they will work with us to show us around. Possibly @1golfer1 could give more details about his/her experience last year in visiting with all the dates full.
@sursumcorda I can speak only for engineering students, but we are intending to plan an overnight event early next month. This was the program implemented last year, although I did not attend because of a date conflict. Instead I simply met with a few professors and a student in my intended major.
Otherwise, I highly recommend contacting professors related to your academic interests. Let them know you were selected as CV in your email.
@sursumcorda I completely agree that it will be very expensive to visit without an organized tour or event.
@1golfer1 I actually received the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship for the School of Engineering. Can you give me more information about the overnight event? Will we receive an email with more information? Thanks for your help.
