good to know, thank you @Winky1
@ProllyBrokeSoon thanks for fact checking - certainly not trying to inflate her stats. D18 has a 3.9 unweighted and a 4.46weighted on a 4.0 scale. In your calculations (and reading) you missed ALL of her IB classes (each is at an honors level for a .5 bump at our school and I’m proud to say she has almost straight As all through High School with just 3 pesky Bs her Sophomore year - but that’s typical as it’s the IB weed out year for us) She actually only had 2 AP classes (APUSH and APWH) but took an AP English test just to see how she would do - got 4s. At our school if you are an IB candidate you take PreIB honors classes 9th/10th grade and then mostly IB (with one reg elective - she took Film and Lit) in 11th/12th grade. I think your confusion is natural and it is why colleges look at several factors and not just your numbers - because every high school weights their classes differently and even score on different scales. For us IB is the highest academic program you can take which looks great for college applications but the IB classes do not get any more of a point boost than the AP classes - the class content is just more rigorous and senior year is considered the same as a freshman year of college. We are hoping it just makes her better prepared and sets her up for success in college! Good luck to you - hoping you may not be broke too soon!
Thanks for clarifying that makes a lot of sense, and good luck to you and your daughter too! @ASKMother
@ProllyBrokeSoon “Another theory is maybe they only sent CV rejections to those who did not apply to additional (scholarships)”. I’ll have to blow that theory up. DS only applied to CV and has not heard either way. We’ve been watching both the in-box and spam/junk folder on both school and personal emails (as they have both on file). Nothing.
@2KansasKids yee actually @Winky1 already blew up that theory but still good to know
@2KansasKids Same here.
@ASKMother you are correct it is holistic. I know my child had perfect stats and did not get the CV. I will tell you from what I hear from my child who knows other students who got CV… very diverse kids. Good luck to everyone.
I got the CV scholarship! Super ecstatic about it (although simultaneously anxious for the MIT decision in 3 days…)
@LvMyKids2 I can confirm that it is indeed holistic but stats are important too. I for one have lots of leadership and national/international rankings along with a 4.0 and 1590, but essays are relatively weak
Congrats ! When did you get the email ? On March 7th ?
any one got emails after March 7th about CV ? Clinging on to hope that may be we could get some news next week
@ThatapplicNt when did you find out?
@whyamilikethis @markha 7:29pm Eastern Time on the 7th. I’m international though so dunno if that had an effect on the timing of the email? Good luck to both of you though, really hope the two of you make it!! Maybe we’ll even meet in person some day
That being said, keep in mind that if you get into Vandy with financial aid, this scholarship will never have made a difference (aside from the stipend of course). So keep your hopes up and good luck once again!!
Thanks @ThatapplicNt for your kind words.Hoping for a response tomorrow.Just want this wait/hope to end.Good luck to all
@ProllyBrokeSoon why do you “think What if those who have received the CV rejections they are planning on accepting into the school, and those who hace not heard anything they are planning on denying?” I got rejected already so I hope you are correct, but just want to know.
Just a theory, a possible explanation lol @confused6789
Another possible scenario would be, those who are yet to receive their rejection/decision may not have made the first cut. My D applied for Cornelius and chancellor but no response yet for both. She had a 4.67 GPA and 1540 SAT.
Seems odd to me, last WEDNESDAY both CV acceptance and rejection notifications went out to some. 3 business days later it seems many/most have not heard either way. I would think if all CV awards were already announced, they would not drag out the rejections. That makes me think they are doing it in waves either by status (ED, RD, etc.), by school (Arts & Sciences, vs Business, etc.) or by some other classification, even random. I wish there was some basic announcement of timing instead of making everyone speculate.
School was closed for spring break last week.
Maybe some portion of the decisions and/or notifications won’t happen until the staff is fully back from break?
Don’t waste your time on any of the Vandy scholarships if you’re not a minority…
@collegecrazy2017 Why is race relevant to this conversation?
