I was reading this book written by former Dartmouth admission director, and she says that all Ivy League admission officers have this hand-book that they use to based their admissions on.

Does Cornell consider, if not fully use, Academic Index in admission (undergrad or grad)?

Cornell calculates it, but admissions is holistic. So the admissions officers see it, and it plays a part in admissions in the sense that the higher AI one has, the better chances he or she has. And this is basically because the higher AI you have, the higher your test scores and class rank are. Ivies basically calculate AI for each applicant to make sure that athletes do not fall below one standard deviation of the rest of the student body, though. So it may have a bigger role when evaluating an athlete than when it does for a non-athlete.

It is all hog wash. Well maybe not all of it, but dont think of it as the last word. I have friends who did the complete opposite of what this author says will happen. Remember she is out to sell books.

The AI is very much used if you are a recruited athlete.

Otherwise don't put too much stock in it. Cornell could admit a completely different set of students and the results would be pretty much the same.
