Although that might be true, the AEM does offer the courses for CPA prep..

yeah i've seen that before..i'm not too fond of the idea of taking courses at ithaca college in order to get the proper prep. anywho..go to aem if you want to end up at cornell ultimately.

Ok, point established.

Seriously the stern vs. aem debate is so useless because i doubt any of us have gone to both schools and studied at both. Why do people defend their schools and choices because of this thing called cognitive dissonance.

But anyways if op wants to do cpa, probably now is a better time than any to do it at Cornell. I think most of the general public doesn't know yet but Ernst & Young have donated almost a million dollars to introduce a new accounting program including new classes, teachers, etc... out of aem specifically geared for people who want to do cpa. It's being rolled out next year if anyone interested and wants for info u can send me a pm.

WHOA!!! How did you find out about this?

Do you know if any other majors are allowed to do this? I was planning to go into finance or real estate at the Hotel School, and maybe the CPA thing might be something id like to pursue after i learn a little more about it...

do you think AEM premed is a good idea?

dude, yousonofatree, check the aem website. youll find out they added the Accounting concentration... but you still need to take courses not offered at cornell...

Actually harvardman the aem acounting concentration (taking classes at IC) is not the new program. Like I said the deptartment just annouced it recently. The logistics haven't been worked out yet so i certainly can't provide any specifics and you probably won't find any online. However, I do know that it is supposed to be designed as a CPA-type curriculm.

Um as to yousonofatree's question, I'm not really sure, but my general vibe was that it (the full program) was only for AEM majors.

AnbuItachi, you can do premed for any major. I wouldn't say its a terrible idea, but I would say its really rare. It will make you less competative vs. other AEM students (pre-med classes are generally considered weeder classes, meaning low median grades). Moreover, it won't really help in terms of getting a finance job in the health care industry. It would just be easier to study something like bio and take some aem and econ classes.

I disagree, I think that AEM premed would be a phenomenal idea. Many doctors today go back to get their MBAs and probably wish that they would have taken an econ class or two. Do yourself a favor and set yourself apart from the single mold that is every aem student trying to "make money" and YES major in aem and go premed. you just go to med school afterwards anyway. good idea, definitely.

unless of course it doesn't interest you on an academic level, in which case you should be a classics major or something.

if you are a seimens semi-finalist, (provided you have solid scores and essays etc..) will CALS AEM program reject you, since you aren't going into a field from which your achievments show?

I'm in CAS here, and my APs take care of the math and intro econ, and next semester i'll take two aem courses...

I mean, how hard is it to do an intra-university transfer to aem? If I meet all the requirements will I get in or is it more than just a formality?

I mean I could just major in Econ (only 8 courses) and then the courses in aem to specialize in finance or accounting aren't many so I could take those

how are aem's accounting and finance major compared to the rest of the b schools?

bump..................
