Cornell Application Status

I didn't receive an email, but I checked the ApplicantID page and "view decision" was there.

I'm probably going to go to a harder small private university in the same city as my current university and might try again next year as I know what to expect and there's no reason not to. If I do, it will probably look unfavorable to see someone who has already transferred elsewhere, but on the other hand the courses will be a lot harder so I wouldn't fall behind academically in hierarchical courses such as Chinese if I went to Cornell. Either way, I can't stay at my current university.

They release decision today? OMG, I thought weekends should be safe.
itsover9thousand, are you learning chinese?

Yeah, I am. My current university doesn't have a rigorous Chinese program at all, and it only goes up to the intermediate level so I have to transfer to do anything beyond that.

The main pull to Cornell is that 1) I'd also like to go to law school there; that area has a strong market for lawyers and I could develop lots of long-term relationships while I'm there 2) further, the university I'm transferring to is an undergrad university, so I would go somewhere else anyway for grad/law school 3) I don't like the city I live in; it's in south Texas and I absolutely cannot stand the weather, local government, or many of its other aspects. Even if the university is amazing I still may not be happy because I have such a strong desire to leave Texas.

darn, I'm sorry to hear that..
you had such a good gpa in high school too..(3.75, if i recall...)
dang...
I feel that I will be getting the bad news too.
i should have applied to CALS or something..
didnt know CAS was this competitive...

I think CAS is really competitive. SexyKoreanGirl, whats your major?

hsinwei89811,

i applied to the international relations department..

any thoughts on that?

no thoughts. Have u heard anything from the depart? junior?

heard nothing. honestly, I spent about 10 minutes on the cornell app..
screwed up time management (10 hours on Stanford, 20 hours on Yale)
so yeah...didn't really do so hot on the cornell short essays so...wtvers..
i wouldn't mind staying at nyu for another year...

anyways hsinwei89811
What school do you go to? What part of china are you from?
are thou a Maoist? You wanna conquer Japan with me?

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far! to those of you still waiting...good luck! I FINALLY received my acceptance packet today with housing, dining and all that info. I got it a week after I received the first acceptance letter with my course evaluation credit info. What are you guys thinking as far as housing, are you going to select West Campus or Hasbrouck apts etc?

West Campus Yo.

argggg this long wait is so killing me.
anyone heard from AAP yet?

SexyKoreanGirl

I am applying to CAS.
I come from Beijing.
Mao is the superhero, I admire him so much.
Japan? What is Japan?

Haha, u are really funny. Glad to see u here.

I'm picking West. I just got my packet today also.

I think I am as well...but do you think the dorms are going to be more strict b/c professors are living there too??

my teachers dont wnat to give them in tooo.. so i told cornell about it.. they were fine and also penn!

im just stalking this thread bc i go to cornell (for now)...and to answer mag's question, the faculty in residence has nothing to do with dorm strictness. they're always really nice families that just want to meet and interact with students...its your RA that determines dorm strictness. anyway you should all definitely request west.

do they have a quota for the different major?

i don't think so....but usually the percentage remains the same every year, yeah?
by the way, hsinwei, i am actually from hong kong! and i'll be in beijing during summer :)

whats the difference between West Campus or Hasbrouck apts?
