I applied to CALS as a Viticulture and Enology major, RD! I am going to call the admissions office for more information on this transfer option…

i got more info by mail today about a CHE transfer option. It doesnt say the word ‘guarenteed’ anywhere, though, just that we’d be given ‘preference’. is it implied that if we reapply we’re definetly in? Is this what everyone is calling a ‘guarenteed transfer’?

I applied to CALS as a Animal Science major:D -Jealousbeaver- Years ago it used to be called Guaranteed Transfer, however sometimes it isn’t “Guaranteed” unless you meet all the requirements. Plus, I have read that for a few colleges being a transfer can be a little more competitive (I know the College of Engineering is one of them). But basically if you meet all your requirement courses and score the required GPA (But try and achieve higher) your basically attending Cornell your Sophomore year! Hooray for us!XD

I got an email on 29th March at 10:30 AM

Did anybody accepted Transer option?

I did~! What school will you be going to next year? I think I’ll be going to UCSD. I was thinking of UCI, but I thought SD might help me make a better transition into Cornel CALS. Then again… bio at SD is probably more rigorous right? I’m pretty sure I’ll get a 3.5+ GPA, but I’m afraid that I’ll somehow get a B- and forever hate myself for ruining a glowing future in Cornell Any input?
Also, has anyone else other than jealousbeaver get more info from Cornell by mail?

Hey guys! i also got the tranfer option, but for AEM in CALS. i hope this all falls through, i am still just disappointed i can’t spend my first year at cornell. i was deferred ED and now this. I also went to the summer college, so at least i know my way around campus haha. but i feel like my biggest problem is getting attached to the school i go to next year. i haven’t decided yet, but i am the kind of person who will not want to leave their friends from freshman year. also, is it socially difficult for transfers to adjust? i hope not!! and what if i want to join a sorority? is that possible as a sophomore at cornell? (as you can tell i have the most random thoughts on my mind, i just wish i was going as a freshman!!). i want the full experience and i just hope being a transfer won’t ruin that at all. any advice? any past transfers have advice for us potential transfers? thank you!

Did anyone in CALS get anything in the mail yet? jealousbeaver got one for CHE and I’m getting a little worried that I’ve yet to hear a peep from Cornell.

I’ve heard from two people who received the transfer option from Cornell in the past and both wound up enjoying a great three years.

Both also said that their GPA’s were slightly under the cut-off for their schools (CALS and Arts & Sciences). So, perhaps receiving one B- or something would not break this offer.

I got the same thing last year around this time. I went to a state school got the GPA and have accepted the transfer.
Not gonna lie, social dynamics are hard at school when people find out you have this option

Edit* I’m CALS btw :)

@evfrizzi, when did you tell your state school friends you had this option? i too am going to a state school this year. did you find it difficult to maintain the gpa you needed for the transfer? (i need a 3.5 for aem)

FindmeFazo,

Are you at UCSD now? Crazy! I’m at UCSD and got this transfer option to CALS for environmental science. I’m probably gonna pursue this option, but I am also worried about getting a B-, I’m in Bioengineering right now.

Can you use the transfer option as a junior instead of a sophomore?
