Cornell CALS

Hi! I’m interested in Cornell, more specifically in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (Bio major).
Just as a little background, I mover in US in my Junior year of high school from Romania. My GPA from Romania is out of 10 and I have a 9.35 for freshman year and a 9.55 for sophomore so that basically placed me at the top of my class there.
As for my stats here:
ACT: I took it twice and got a 28 each time, but my highest scores in each section are 32 Reading, 30 English, 27 Math, 28 Science.
SAT: I have a 1910 (640 reading, 650 math, 620 writing)
TOEFL (english proficiency test): 105 out of 120
GPA: 4.2 weighted
The classes I took Junior and Senior year were packed with requirements so I couldn’t take all the competitive classes I wanted to take.

Junior:
Bio Honors
Precalculus Honors
US H1
French 3 Honors
English 2
English 3

Senior:
AP Bio
Calculus
French 4 Honors
World Mythology Honors (English 4)
Printmaking and Photography
US H 2

EC’s:
President of Diversity
Vice-president and cofounder of Ultimate Frisbee
Volunteering at a hospital
Volunteering with kinds with special needs
Environmental awareness club
Model UN
Drama

I know my scores are not that high compared to Cornell’s average but I was just wondering if I have any chances at all. Let me know what you think, considering I had the experience of moving from another county and all, and it would be great to see other stats that got you into Cornell or that you’re applying with.

Thanks!

Hi, which major are you applying? I am so applying to cornell Cals under the major of biology and society. I have pretty similar SAT with you, but I much lower critical reading score. CR 530, math 760, writing 610. I think cals is more about the “fit”. However, I feel like you have taken two advanced biology courses, you should have a great chance of getting in.

Hi! I am applying as a Bio major.

It might be a bit of a reach. You would generally need a 2200+/33+ to be competitive, but of course there are exceptions. Your lack of APs might also harm your chances, taking 10-15 wouldn’t be abnormal for Cornell’s applicants. If it’s because your school doesn’t offer many APs, that won’t be used against you. If you don’t want your schedule to be packed with required courses, I might recommend taking online courses over the summer (BYU possibly) and adding a few more honors/AP courses. You’re below the 25th percentile in Math and CR scores (writing is not officially considered). There’s no harm in applying, and I wish you luck in getting in, but make sure you have more realistic options as well.
