Hi all!
I’m trying to transfer to Cornell as a sophomore for fall semester. Here is me:
~Me in person~
-Applying to Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Science (CALS) as a plant science major
-I visited the campus, met the CALS professors and administrators, and the CALS admission office
-The CALS professors and administrators seemed to like me!
-I was in love with the CALS programs, majors, job, and lab opportunities, and let everyone know so.
-I conveyed that Cornell is my dream school. It is true!
~My college profile so far~
-GPA unweighted 3.40
-Current midterm grades all A- (6 classes, 3 credit hours each)
-Botany and Russian double major, Horticulture minor
-I have one publication in a scientific journal and 1.5 years of undergrad lab experience
-Honest possum, I’m bilingual in English and Russian
-Only one club: writing a gardening column in an eco friendly student journal.
-I have enough credits to graduate next semester if I don’t transfer, but want to go to Cornell to study in their amazing programs for 2 years
-I have translated a documentary, and academic writing, from Russian into English
-I will be working on a farm or in a nursery this summer
-I want to breed plants and own a farm/orchard after I’m done with college. (My inspiration is California’s “The Grapery,” with their non GMO, natural, cotton candy flavored grapes!)
~My application~
-I only have 2 of the 3 recommended letters of recommendation, Cornell needs 1 but I’m worried about not having 3.
-I sent it in quite late, on the deadline, and will send in all of the finished materials tomorrow. I specified that this was OK with the CALS office, but I am still a slowpoke.
-I noted experience with raising hens, gardening, hunting mushrooms,
-And how I could use my Russian skills and the plant science knowledge I gain from Cornell to make advanced in a really cool career!
-I listed professors and programs in Cornell that inspired me.
-I listed specific plant species that I would be interested in working with someday.
I have been so, so nervous about getting into Cornell. They are so, so amazing, their labs and orchards are really the best! (And if you have the chance, you should visit them, just for funsies!) What do you think my chances are?
