Also, I know an adult who is personal friends with the director of admissions at Cornell, she wrote a rec for me. My older brother goes to cornell.

lol, best way to give a first response to your post is to refer to the following quote:

It's not what you know, it's who you know!

haha, sorry thought it was funny in reference to your case, but um before i read the last two lines of your post i was thinking cornell was a reach and u chic was a low reach/match...but then after reading the last two lines, i think you have a pretty good shot for cornell =) u chic is still low reach/match...

spanks...he plays 3 sports a year, and his other ecs are also exceedingly solid including leadership positions, thats why i think u chicag0 is more of a match.low reach and cornell (assuming the director of admissions is really adult's friend) is also a low reach...

wait 1290 sat and u of chicago and CORNELL are low reches/matches...HOW?? i mean he seems avarage to me (sry not being offensive) I would say both r reaches specially with a 3 in an ap exam ...altho ur gpa isnt bad..and judging by the fact that u simply stated 3 sports a year... with outgiving any awards or major accomplishments ill assume ur not getting recruited.. so well id say reach for u of c and and even bigger reach for cornell. but anyways u could post more about ur classes or smthing....

Yeah, they both are reaches. Retake the SAt if you still can, 1300, 1350, 1400, 1450 are all magic numbers and you are below 1300 by ten points!

I would say for you to have cornell as a high match/ low reach are going to need to be at a 1350 at worst, with around a 1400 to have a decent/good shot. You are in at your other schools though

I got into Cornell and I got 1240 on SATs.

However, sometimes you really need to know how to apply to these schools and play the game. So far, you definitely have a lot of things going for you: pretty good GPA, Personal connection to the admissions office, your brother goes there and your business teacher is writing a letter of rec, SATs arent even that low.

Bad things: a 3 on the AP exam might cause concern that you wont be able to meet the challenges of a college level course... believe me! There is little or no room for slacking off at Cornell (I've heard similar things about Chicago). People who don't do homework are the people who have to drop out after their first semester. Some courses you can spend hours and hours and hours at the library and still somehow get a C+.

In the end, I would recommend applying early decision, upping the SATs as much as possible and spinning as much of your application as possible to make it look as though your interests and activities are a perfect match for their AEM program.

Even if they do reject you, which is always a possibility [I say this because I know people who seemed much more qualified than me who got rejected and I know people who were much less qualified than me who got accepted], there are other ways to end up at Cornell. Transfering into Cornell is much easier than being admitted as a freshman!

Aside from that, the other schools you listed are great schools too. Geneseo is a great place to go to school, and University of Rochester has a beautiful campus.
