@barovets I think you’ll get in to be honest, this letter pretty much implies that your application stood out. Besides, Cornell never accepts extra materials sent after February 15th. Admissions asking for more? That’s a good news. I hope you did send in extra materials before March as they’ve requested…Anyways, keep me posted on your decisions.

It’s a load of BS.

anyone got it after 12:49? Mine seems to be really last?
Maybe emails are sent based on alphabetical last names?

@cyanproxy, i’m crossing my fingers! and yes i did. I sent an extra writing supplement and I had a family friend who my dad works with, and is an alumni, write up a recommendation/interview. so let’s hope i get in! and i’ll keep you posted for sure

I would also like to toss up another reason to doubt of mine. Assuming the algorithm alternates sending acceptances and rejections every minute, one must consider how many are being sent out in each group. Considering Cornell has about a 16% acceptance rate, why the algorithm send out 1 acceptance at an even time and then 6 rejections?

First of all, the Cornell Admissions would never TELL anyone that odd numbers are rejects. That seems very uncharacteristic of ANY admission staff. Whether or not Cornell has some kind of algorithm…maybe. But, it’s highly unlikely that they would share it with some random kid eager to know about it.

Second, how did you manage to get to that topic with an admission officer? “Hi admission officer, I just wanted to know whether an odd digit implies a rejection?”

@jileeetm I was thinking about that too. I don’t think minutes really mean anything. Look at unicameral2013 causing fear in everyone ;)

Whoops double post! But it is random. And if it’s not, there’s no use worrying about it. Thursday will be here before we know it!

Got a likely here…my email came at 10:56 am.

It could just be a coincidence?..

All the likelies have been even numbers so far. We need a likely who was mailed on an odd minute to disprove the theory.

Wow, really?

I received a likely and the time on my instructions email was 10:10 am

^Well I guess there is truth to the theory.

^There’s only been like 3-4 likeliest posting their times in the thread. Could just be coincidence (I hope). One of my friends with a 4.0UW, 2360 SAT, great extra-curriculars got it at 8:03AM though.

What time are we talking about exactly? The time we received the email (as in the number next to the title on most email interfaces) or the time the email was sent out. Even if this was true, does ‘even’ mean waitlist + accepted or just accepted?

It’s definitely not done in alphabetical order, my last name starts with R and I got the email at 8:10 AM. I really think it’s just random, good luck though everyone

@Philovitist

what do you mean, “Wow, really?”

The time that we received the email… it’s written top right corner of the email…

i wonder why unicameral hasn’t posted at all since he dropped the “bomb”
