Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@RSalvatierra I think schools release earlier these days because they may want to give students an extra week to prepare RD applications if they are rejected or deferred in ED round. Just a theory.

Do you guys think Cornell is really need-blind? Do you think that you can increase your chances if you don’t need financial aid? I remember someone from the college admissions program telling me that it is something they take into consideration but they will never say they do. I mean, being able to pay 60k a year (international students) is a lot of money. Multiply that by a four digit number. It turns out to be a lot. :-? :-?

@wanttobestudent I don’t think it has too much of an effect. A recommendation letter from the professor of the course you took would probably be helpful, though.

I don’t know if anyone has already asked this, but where is everyone applying if you get deferred/rejected?

I’m ED 2 for Emory and from there just a couple of UC’s.

My second choice school is UMiami. I am pretty confident about getting into it and would be perfectly happy going but i need a good scholarship or else my mom won;t let me go because I live in NY so we will also have to spend a lot on airfare

internal screaming

Already getting ready to apply UMich and NYU after getting that rejection.

@RSalvatierra I think if they say they’re need blind, it means that they don’t even know how much your parents make/can afford until they’ve already decided to accept/deny you. The admissions committee would decide on who gets accepted/denied, and then they look at the financials

.

@RSalvatierra correct me if I’m wrong, but i’m pretty sure they don’t give much financial aid to international students. I’m pretty sure they reserve the money mostly for domestic students.

@rubiksprodigy I think we already had one made

@CCSenioritis ahahahah its the IB
IB cheat sheet
EE=Extended essay
FOA= Further Oral Assessment
TOK= Theory of Knowledge (the only mandatory course)
IA= Internal Assessment, the EE but on a smaller scale and in almost every subject

@chootimes yea I’m curious too, can u check on your phone the results?

Oh my…
It’s soo close to decision day…

1 day, 23 hours, and 51 minutes left… Yikes!

@chootimes @dorothylewes I think so, I did it when I got my acceptance to the summer program and it was the same layout as this, you get an email with log in details and then have to access an account on their website to see your decision

Financial aid is very limited for international students, yeah :frowning:

I didnt apply for financial aid as a domestic applicant and I m thinking thats hock. After all, colleges are private institutions and they want money to survive. They are greedy, money sucking monsters. I mean, just look at the COST OF THE TUITION.

@AutoFire I did the same thing. I can see both sides of the argument. Im sure they see your ability to pay, but whether or not they act on that in anyway, I don’t know. Of course need-blind institutions have seemingly limitless funds, but as you said they are fundamentally businesses and have to take into account the bottom line.

i think cornell is more need-blind than other schools are. cornell is the only school i have come across that doesn’t ask on the common app “Do you plan to apply for need-blind financial aid” or something like that while every single one of my other schools do
