Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

I’m definitely going to re visit Cornell and look into the Tanner Deans invite. I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity to attend a great school like Cornell and hope that the aid offer will be sufficient

@anonymoose3 the letter says that “Tanner’s Dean’s Scholars are a small but distinguished group of about forty students in each class,” not forty applicants. I imagine they send letters to enough people that about forty will enroll.

Did any CALS applicant get a Likely Letter?

@16elir - So probably about 80 then. Cornell’s yield is consistently around 50%.

@DAVE437 Just look at the old pages, but yes plenty did. Lots of diversity kids.

@parentinwaiting I had something show up on my To-Do list which I had already done. Emailed them today and they were quick to fix it (either because I’m going to be rejected so they didn’t really care or it was just a mistake or something). 1) I don’t think you should read too far into it 2) I would suggest emailing/calling the Financial Aid office. Especially emailing because I was repeatedly unable to reach them through the phone. Sorry I wasn’t much help beyond that.
Best of luck to your son!

Yeah I got ir

@parentinwaiting Hi! I had a similar problem with my to-do list (showing up as having no tax returns submitted from neither custodial nor non-custodial because they’re technically “married filing jointly”) so I called Cornell finaid today and talked to a very helpful woman who told me that she would fix it ASAP and that I just needed to fax the files to them again (not through IDOC) and they would make a note of it. I strongly recommend calling, they might have you send it to them separate from the IDOC to get it off the to-do list. If it wasn’t listed on your IDOC it was probably a misunderstanding and they’ll be happy to fix it!

Hi everyone! After checking this thread several times, I think most people got the diversity invitation as their LL. But is there any other formats of LL? I got this email on March 14th:

I am writing to let you know that the admissions selection committee has completed its review of your application for admission to Cornell University. Although the Ivy League member institutions will not officially notify Regular Decision applicants of their decision until March 31, it may help you with your planning to know that you will very likely be admitted to Cornell University.

I thought that this was an LL, but seems like no one else got this? I now panic so much.

I know I’m super late but I got the likely letter 3/14 5:31pm. International applying to CAS. Keeping my fingers crossed for the financial aid package!

@mprut0987 If you use the Cornell “net price calculator” on the financial aid page you can get a very good idea of the aid package you will received. My D’s package every year was within $100 of the calculator. As long as you enter the exact numbers from your 2015 tax info it’s accurate.

Is anyone who received a LL for WIE actually planning on going to the event on April 16th?

@Extra0dinary You got in because your academic achievements were good, not because of diversity stuff looks like. Congratulations!

@Extra0dinary It is clearly a likely letter. Congratulations.

deferred from ED for PAM. does deferred applicants have a chance?

yes

Does school of human ecology send likely letters?

What is the diversity email

@Extra0dinary I got the same thing as you! Which school did you apply to?

@LIParent101 they have limited funding for internationals so some internationals don’t receive any financial aid though they apply for it…
