Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

@Bluebrry I believe Dyson is the hardest to get into in CALS, but not the hardest at Cornell as a whole. Of course, depending on the schools and majors, you need to show strong interest and activities that fit the specific school/major: GPA and test scores are not everything. For example, SHA admission officers may prefer a student who has worked part-time at the local restaurant during high school with 3.7 GPA and 2000 SAT score to someone with 3.9 GPA and 2100 SAT score with no experience in working in the hotel/restaurant fields.

@jaxson So true. Every college is different and the way they accept people is so random and weird, I didn’t get into some of my safety schools and got into the schools that I used to laugh at when I thought of myself attending. Well, that’s that. And thanks I wish you the best of luck as well. I hope all our desires are met.

@Anonymoose3 Nah don’t worry about being offensive I totally get it. I just don’t have anyone with any college experience whatsoever in my family. This college stuff is completly foreign to me. I didn’t know ivies was a thing or even existed until my senior year, so I used to think it was easy to get into Princeton, but as some decisions slowly came out I realized that simple things won’t get you where you wanna go aND it’s much more complicated then that. But cornell is a favorite, always was too, and I was just blinded by the more popular ivies. Idk sorry but I felt like I had to explain myself.

The issue w/ Dyson is the extremely limited # of spots, (esp after athletes are done). It has about a 7% acceptance rate, which is probably the harshest at Cornell. The avg GPA and scores may not be the highest though;). Hardest to get into and “hardest” are 2 different things?!

I hope the admission committees know about Indian national level scholarships…I realised right now, that although I mentioned winning two really big scholarships, I didn’t give a detailed explanation of why they are a big deal…Ugh, I hope they know. They do take in international applications, so I think it would be safe to presume they are aware of it?

I’m sure they have seen it all…no worries!

SHA b/c is #1 in World.

@cornell20 @jaxson yeah I haven’t seen any LL’s for SHA…and remember we only saw 3 early acceptances here on CC for SHA

Is anyone like me, keeping a countdown timer for every decision date?
…2 days 7 hours 25 minutes until Cornell decisions are out.

Cornell is the last decision for my son. Cannot wait. Feel like it’s been a long wait give that it’s been on the list since Fall!

So for whoever was asking about guaranteed transfer, I sent Cornell an email telling them that I would be open to that option. They replied and said they will add this to my application.

@Libertatis you do mean 3 days right?

Positron311, can you tell me where you got your statistics re: male/female applicants? Thx. FYI, don’t know your stats, but my d had a perfect score on SAT, 4.75 gpa, wrote grants for non profit, participated in TEAMS at school and attended Girls Who Code in NYC last year. 5/535 in class at highly competitive HS. Took all the highest level calc/physics etc. Also, National Merit Finalist and Presidential Scholar. Also captain of equestrian team (Cornell has a varsity team) and editor of Lit. Mag. Received likely letter. I am not saying she is the most qualified or more qualified than you, I don’t know what Cornell is geting in as a comparison. I am also not denying that your stats are correct, but would like to see them. thx.

Question: If you are taking a 5-yr program like architecture and graduating in the 2021, are you still part of the class of 2020, and what do you identify yourself as after senior year… 5th year student?

So guys on the Common App, when it asked would you like to be considered for first -year spring admission Jan 2017, I put yes. Do I need to still email them that I am open to that option like @cuhopeful16

@rik123 I don’t think so. I didn’t put that option on the common app because I thought I would get in ED. Now I am freaking out about not getting in so I sent the email as a backup.

@Venice1 Lots of good info here…can select data you want on right side.

As @altmusicman was saying, @Venice1 , there is a table where you can see the acceptance rates:

@Venice1 Just curious but with your daughter’s stats and EC (impressive), is there any school she did not get into? seems like this would be a breeze process

@litlhoward2468 @jaxson @cornell20 One of my friends received a LL from SHA so it does send them out.
