no worries:) I didn’t realize the schools had different conditions for TO - I should’ve looked it up beforehand so people wouldn’t be misinformed, thanks for letting us know abt CHE tho. It looks like CHE + CAS don’t have due dates, but all the other schools do
I understand what you’re saying, but I feel like TO may be better because the WL “acceptance rate” is ~2-6% + sometimes lower (idk how much higher it would be this year - may be up to 7-9%? In 2018, it was 3.6%. In 2019, it was 4.4%) whereas TO basically guarantees that you can go to Cornell during your sophomore year given that you meet the requirements (which aren’t too hard to fulfill apparently). I think the odds of actually attending the school (which is the ultimate goal lol) are so much greater with TO
If you think about it, the ED acceptance rate is 25% (1 in 4), but there are still so many applicants who get deferred. It might seem “easier” to get in ED because of the acceptance rate, but you don’t really know who you’re being compared with. I feel like WL is similar to ED bc all the applicants are qualified, but the acceptance rate is even lower. (I know they’re looking more for “fit” for those on the WL, but I hope I got my point across)
I was waitlisted and received a TO from Cornell Dyson on April 2. For me at least, the letter says, “In the event that we are unable to offer you fall 2020 admission, we will be extending you a special Transfer Option for fall 2021… More information will be provided once we confirm that fall 2020 enrollment is no longer a possibility.”
I have seen in past threads that some get off WL and some are offered TO. I think this year with the uncertainty of internationals committing…more will come off the waitlist and more will be offered TO from waitlist.
From my own point of view, I most likely won’t pursue my TO. My thoughts are putting my life on hold never really fully enjoying or making friendships in freshman year and going through the whole process again. Also, I don’t like the idea of having my curriculum “set” by Cornell while I am in another school. And yes, I get that it’s Ivy and they have every right to do this. For me it seems unfair. It’s been a long ride from ED to deferred to TO. I’m hopping off the train and taking control of things I can control and fully committing to a school that would love to have me from the start. I also think it’s unfair to whatever school I choose. To up and leave after one year.
decision portal update? I was given the TO…but I just went on my portal and on the drop down menu …I now have an option for “waitlist correspondence” …is this new? does everyone have this option?
from CHE: Completing the coursework requirements with strong grades does not guarantee admission, but it does make an applicant more competitive in our applicant pool.
When you submitted your application for TO, was there any component of it that required them to look at your high school GPA? Also, did you need to make a personal statement of any sort?
