Is everyone here also offered a wait list spot, or are some people offered only the transfer option? I think everyone who got TO also is on some sort of wait list? Fingers crossed for everyone!
I’m only TO…wished I were also WL. Didn’t know they did both.
I saw someone on r-ddit say that they were rejected last year even after they met the requirements
I think it’s only for certain schools
i only have the TO as well, no waitlist
Has anyone received any updates/emails from Cornell since they sent the first form?
nope. Do people who get the ILR TO option or just the TO in general get placed on a waitlist too? If that’s the case, could TO option ppl actually be admitted for Fall 2020 off the waitlist or no?
@computer1000 I believe TO and Waitlist are two separate things for all the schools. Waitlisted people sometimes/likely get TO, but I don’t think the other way around is true…so unlikely we TOs get admitted for Fall 2020
someone correct me if I am wrong
I’m on the Cornell waitlist for 2024 and I did not get a TO. I think that TO’s are better because you are more likely to be guaranteed a spot, whereas with the waitlist, if you don’t get off, you’re done. The one advantage of the waitlist is being able to start in the fall as a freshman, but other than that I’m jealous of you TO’s lol. Good luck to everyone!
I have heard that some of those not selected off of the waitlist are later offered a transfer option. Does anyone know how accurate that is? I am on the CALS waitlist, but I am oos.
@applicants107107 I definitely saw posts from last year that said people received TOs after the wait list period closed (I think notices came out in June or so saying the class was full, but they offered a TO to some people and rejected others). I don’t think that was specific to SHA and I don’t know if CALS does that though. Look at last year’s threads maybe to get more specific info.
bump on this
I have since gotten an email just saying that they will be keeping in touch for the next couple of months and sending updates. Nothing serious though.
does anyone know if the TO still applies even if you choose to apply for a different major that’s still in the college that gave you the TO?
this was from CHE…not sure of the policy of other colleges
The TO is based on your choice of major as a first-year applicant. Should you determine that another major in the College of Human Ecology is of interest you will need to complete the coursework requirements as outlined for that newly identified major. You will also need to support your new major choice through related experiences and/or well-articulated motivations.
Global and Public Health Sciences applicants: While the GPHS major cannot accommodate transfer students, you can pursue those interests through other College of Human Ecology majors and the Global Health minor. You can also schedule an appointment to speak with an Admissions Counselor to discuss your interests and required coursework.
I’m not sure what school you applied to, but from the CALS FAQs: https://cals.cornell.edu/education/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/transfer-applicants/transfer-options/transfer-option-frequently-asked-questions
"A Transfer Option Candidate may request a major change. Please provide a one page statement explaining why you would like to change your major in CALS and please share your future goals related to this major. Candidates requesting a change of major during the academic year should also include an unofficial transcript and a copy of your spring course schedule, if available.
Major change requests should be sent to cals_admissions@cornell.edu by December 1.
You cannot request a change of major to Applied Economics and Management, Biological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Global and Public Health. The Selection Committee reserves the right to deny any change of major request."
I was on the waitlist for CALS and after they ended waitlist usage earlier this week, I was offered a TO for Biometry and Statistics, so it is possible.
Got a dyson TO after being told their waitlist was closed
I waitlisted for CALS and after they said their spot all filled up they sent me another email for transfer option
@tcchoi Did you fill out the survey? If so: after you filled out the CALS TO survey, did you get a confirmation that you filled it out? - Also recently offered a TO to CALS.
I just got a transfer offer today from CALS and filled out the survey. I did not receive a confirmation email saying that I filled it out yet @prscustom24
