My daughter applied to Dyson RD and got a request for an alumni interview/meeting yesterday. Is this a good sign, that she got an interview? (this post has been edited for clarity)
Meetings are solely indicative of the availability of alumni in your area. Donât read anything into it but hopefully your student enjoys the interaction and gets a better feel for the university.
Thatâs great. Which state are you in, if you donât mind being asked. Trying to figure out if Cornell interviews are common or rare/location specific. My son hasnât received an interview email, BTW (in NJ)
We are in Central Texas
The Cornell Common Data Set lists the importance of various factors as Very Important, Important, Considered or Not Considered. It has Interviews categorized as Considered. While not as important as an SAT score or high school rigor, it isnât meaningless.
Cornell moved to making the alumni meeting non evaluative for all but the College of AAP. It is not even called an âinterviewâ anymore and we donât submit a report other than if a meeting happened or not. Thatâs the extent of it.
Thanks everyone. I wasnât asking if the meeting/interview itself is meaningless. I was asking if the fact that she got invited to meet with an alum is indicative of the fact that they consider her a good candidate, or whether we shouldnât read anything into it.
The alumni chairs that make the assignments donât see the candidates application so donât read anything into getting (or not getting) a meeting. All we get is the studentâs name/contact info/name of the high school.
Hi - For Letter of continued interest, is there a deadline?
There isnât usually a deadline but I recommend students submit in January since theyâre now in the review process of RD apps, including deferred. Many students should hopefully have grades from first semester in the system to maybe brag about those grades or what they learned that was interesting that wasnât captured in the app during ED.
How do you send LOCI? Think the portal doesnât have a place to send. Do you just email? Thanks!
Is there an additional supplemental section to upload in the portal? If not, send to admissions via email.
Hi,
The portal does have a box on the right that you click on to upload your LOCI etc.
Does anyone have any insight into Cornell ILR admissions? How competitive, how much of the Freshman class is filled in ED, stats of admitted students, whether legacy helps etc.
Thanks!
Yes. My major is info science in CALS.
Same major and same college. I am also deferred.
Okay random but did u get an email from CALS admissions after you were deferred asking to set up a Zoom call? Because I got an email and I had a Zoom call with an admissions officer but Iâm not sure if they gave it to everyone or just some people
No, I did not get that email lol. I have heard from others that the interview is useless, but I am not sure.
Cornell interviews are informative, not evaluative. So they have no bearing on admission decisions
