** Did research at Skidmore College under their plant biology professor the summer before her senior year ** - I think this was a huge asset toward her getting accepted.

Worked a part time job over summers since the age of 16.

Agree. Join the FB group from Dan Dan Pan at your own risk. The moderator is not affiliated with Cornell nor is she a parent of a kid going to Cornell. She’s phishing for information for her after school learning business.

deferred here. any sense whether deferred applicants get accepted RD?

I don’t think they publish that data point which would be super interesting. In general, from speaking to our daughter’s guidance counselor and our experience last year, it seems Cornell will quickly deny admission after ED if they think there is no chance for admission in RD. I know of several kids who have gotten in after ED deferral including my daughter.

how did your daughter update info after getting deferral? I also got deferred and I am curious how to improve my ecs or anything

she was advised to submit a LOCI and update with any new awards/ECs (which wasn’t much of an update with covid!).

Is this organized by parents or outsiders??

By outsiders. Look up who the moderators are.

My daughter was deferred last year, then accepted during RD cycle.

Congratulations!

Congrats! So funny that both of our daughters will be going to Cornell, maybe they can be on the ski team together again!

How in gods name is this possible? I’m so annoyed! Here are my stats

UW GPA: 3.7
W GPA: 4.78
SAT/ACT: Cornell Waived
300+ Volunteer hours
15 APs
Applied for CALS Landscape Architecture

Our stats seem super similar except for the AP scores. I can’t understand why I was deferred

What was her intended major? What college did she apply to and what were her stats? I’m still trying to recollect why I was deferred from admission.

Maybe it is their essays and ecs? Test scores and gpa aren’t everything so I would say that they were able to really stand out from their essays. I know multiple 4.0s with high SATs who got rejected so don’t give up hope!

I would not expect a 3.7 to be accepted. I know many applicants with higher GPAs and > 1500 SATs (who submitted SATs to Cornell Colleges that are test-optional , rather than test-blind like CALS) who were rejected. It is a tough hurdle to clear.
