I am sure they are aware, at least directionally. I doubt that they sit and cross-reference percentile charts, though. A 750 is a 750 from an admissions perspective, IMO.
While I agree that Cornell could be more clear on its website, my interpretation is that all Subject Tests do not need to be sent.
@Winky1 I submitted a 720 WH and a 740 Bio E to CALS. I would submit anything over 700. Take my advice with a grain of salt, but I donāt think percentiles matter much; only a narrow subset of the student population (eg students applying to Ivies) is taking the test because so few colleges require them. Thatās why percentages seem so skewed and I wouldnāt worry about them.
@skieurope I agree it makes sense that they would only require you send all SAT II scores if you are applying to a school that requires the SAT IIās. However, I called admissions last year and asked this exact question and they said they want all SATās ever taken, both Iās and IIās.
HOWEVER, if being in this business has taught me anything it is that you cannot always trust what the person that answers the phone in admissions says. They are trying to help, but sometimes communicate policies incorrectly (accidentally, of course).
I just emailed admissions to ask. They arenāt back until next week. If and when I get a reply, I will post it.
Found it under their MeetEzra link. You donāt have to send IIās if they arenāt required for your school:
Cornellās seven colleges or schools may also require SAT Subject Tests in addition to the SAT or ACT. Students applying to a college or school that does not require SAT Subject Tests are not required to submit their Subject Test scores.
@collegemomjam Last year was last year, and last year Cornell specifically said that they wanted all scores. The question is what is required this year. If there is one thing that I have learned over the years is that admissions requirements for some schools seem to change annually.
Anyway, as I said upthread, it was my interpretation from reading their site that one did not need to send all Subject Test scores in this application cycle. I also agree that the quality of info that one may receive over the phone (or email for that matter) may vary depending on the person in the office. This, BTW, is not unique to Cornell, and I have no first-hand knowledge about the quality if info disseminated by the admissions office.
That part is clear to me. I think the question is if one has to send all Subject Tests if one took more than 2 or just send 2 for A&S or just Math and any science for engineering.
Certainly if you get any further clarification, update us, because Iād certainly like to know for my own edification.
@skieurope I will ask. They already replied to me even though they are closed, but I will ask that exact question.
I agree things change year to year. I do college advising and I never rely on my last yearās information because it does change year to year. Sometimes it changes within the same year. Last year, U Penn changed their testing policy within the calendar year or at least late enough that some kids had employed strategies that they didnāt need to. They ended up NOT requiring all scores (something they had done before) so some students cancelled subject tests (my daughter being one of them) because they didnāt think they did as well as they could haveā¦yet if they didnāt have to send the score they might have kept it to see how they did. My daughter was considering applying ED to Penn (changed her mind, not for this reason) and she was very upset that she found out so late that she didnāt need to send all scores after all. I donāt remember exactly when they changed their policy but it may have been AFTER 9/1.
Tufts changed their policy from not accepting the old SAT to accepting both the old and the newā¦this wasnāt after 9/1 but it was late enough that some people may have had to change their testing plans to accommodate Tuftsā requirements (this might have been a result from feedback I gave admissions after we went to an admissions info session and I went up to the presenter after the session and told them this was a bad idea because by not accepting the old SAT they would lose all of those Ivy aspiring applicants that apply to Tufts also because the Ivies were all accepting both tests that year (2017)ā¦the admissions rep intently listened to my concerns and their website reflected the changes to their policy within days of our visit).
Penn State this year changed their essay requirements for the honors college mid cycle.
You really have to pay attention to details and they do change every year and no matter how they are worded on college websites, they can be interpreted differently sometimes. And if you need to clarify, it is best to do it in writing with a real admissions counselors because the staff in admissions sometimes doesnāt understand the exact details of the policies.
I was just accepted to Cornell HE ED. If this is of any help, I accidently sent all scores, including the subject tests I was not fond of. Cornell repeatedly told me not to worry and that they are not considered in admission. They were right. Once I submitted everything, I was able to view my applicant profile. The subject tests showed submitted, but without a score, since it was not relevant. Only SAT best scores from each section were shown.
Here is the reply from Cornell regarding whether or not a student needs to send in all subject tests if they are applying to a school that requires subject tests, or if they can just send in any two of their choice (that meet the requirements):
Please have the student send in any two SAT Subject test scores as required by the College of Arts and Sciences.
All the best,
Admissions Staff
Cornell Undergraduate Admissions Office
So apparently they have score choice for subject tests, but you just need to make sure you are sending in the ones that they require if your school requires specific tests.
Iām a RD applicant for Dyson and was offered an interview. Anyone else that applied to Dyson get an interview? I was under the impression only architecture and Hotel kids got offered interviews
@WashUH0peful itās likely a CAAAN interview, you can look for past threads about it, they are informational, and are done for the applicantās benefit, to help answer questions, and make it feel like a more personal process. They canāt interview everyone, so itās not a criteria for acceptance. My S, was just accepted ED for 2022, and he was never contacted by Alumni
