Hey all! I’m a CAS applicant from NY where there are tons of alumni! I just had my interview today
What to expect:
- Dress code: I wore a nice top, plain dark jeans, nice shoes (but nothing too fancy). My interviewer, though, was wearing very casual clothing.
- Location: we met at Starbucks. This seems to be the norm.
- Starting off: my interviewer stated a disclaimer that they are NOT part of the admissions committee, etc, etc. However, they did take notes, and were super nice and informative! I enjoyed my interview overall.
- Actual interview: even though it’s an “informative” interview, BE PREPARED for actual questions!! Have insightful and SPECIFIC answers. Show your passion for the school!
- Ask questions!! The more personal and friendly the conversation naturally gets to be, the better. Obviously, don’t ask actual personal questions like income, but things that are specific to the interviewer about Cornell are always better!
- Time: mine lasted an hour, which I think is a little bit beyond the usual time range, but hey, it never hurts for it to be longer! We found some similarities which we clicked over and went slightly off-topic about
Hope this helps. I was quite apprehensive about my interview, but it went just fine. (The added caffeine from my coffee didn’t really help, haha)
How do we find out if we have alumni living near us?
& what are on your guys’ application checklists? I have everything checked off but is that just what they received from me?
Is anyone’s financial aid to do list filled out? My list is still blank
It’s obvious Cornell is trying to swindle us out of our hard-earned cash. We must revolt! Everyone, cancel your applications! Especially if you’re also applying to CAS for computer science!
Mate, chill
Do you guys think the AOs read our application by now at least once?
Probably at least the first pass
What do you mean the first pass? How do they evaluate? And who are the admissions officers? Are they the people tthat answer the phone when you call the undergrad office?
There was an article posted recently, in Cornell they first consider your academics, being first pass, and then look at your ECs.
So they probably looked at my transcripts, essays, recs and ECs by now
can you post the link
Here is the article they published a few weeks ago. https://cornellsun.com/2018/11/06/a-look-inside-how-cornell-accepts-its-students/
Hey! So I applied to HD in humec for ED and I got this email:
Dear -----,
Greetings from Cornell University!
I am writing to introduce you to three university-wide recognition programs that comprise what we call the Cornell Commitment. We invite you to learn more about the exciting opportunities that you could take advantage of within the Cornell Tradition, Meinig Family Cornell National Scholars, and the Rawlings Cornell Presidential Research Scholars programs. These unique programs are designed to honor students who have demonstrated achievements in leadership, work and service, research and discovery, and academic excellence.
Students are selected for the Cornell Commitment programs during the admissions process and are notified of their selection in early April, shortly after university admission decisions are released. The Cornell Commitment offers significant opportunities for personal and academic development, and enrolling Commitment students are eligible to participate throughout their undergraduate years at Cornell. Support funds are available and can be used for internships, alternative break activities, research, and special projects.
Does this mean anything???
