@parent2001 – Just to confirm, are you saying the ED decisions will be available online on 12/10? Thx!
@Hopper2019: Yes, ED decisions will be available online on Dec 10th.
@parent2001 how do you know they are?
I had asked the admission office for COE.
how do you guys know it will be the 10th?
oh ok thanks
I’ve been emailing CALS admissions and after not being able to find online whether or not they require 1st quarter grades I was told via email that “most first quarter grades do not come in time to be considered in the early decision application process. However, if your first quarter report is available you are more than welcome to submit it but it will not count against you if it is not available.”
@FutureSurgeon27 Sounds like they meant that first semester grades don’t come in before ED, but first quarter grades would be completed long before the November 1 due date. But I don’t think they are required for CALS anyway, which is probably why you couldn’t get a straight answer.
Hopefully this would settle any worries. I emailed Cornell Admissions last night about COE requiring Q1 grades. This is the email I sent:
“If I didn’t send in my Q1 grades for the COE Early decision, will that negatively influence my decision in any way? I am really concerned because I just found out today and it was not on the app checklist.”
This was their reply this morning:
"Thank you for your email.
Quarter grades are not required and few early decision applicants send them.
Your application (like those of the majority of applicants—those who don’t send unofficial quarter grades) provides ample information for the College of Engineering staff to make a thoughtful decision.
Best wishes,
Ellen Perlmutter"
Good luck everyone!
@victorchang Is that from someone in admission or the COE admissions? Remember that the COE is who will review your application. Not the general admissions office and that conflicts with other emails that kids have received stating it is required.
Do we make a new deferred thread or do we stay in this one
is someone already deferred
just saying
Re: sending Q1 grades for COE. My son realized yesterday that he’d missed the published Thanksgiving deadline for this. He emailed everyone and their brother about it and got a response back from Shawn Felton in admissions almost immediately telling him “There’s still time for us to receive these.” Mr. Felton didn’t say Q1 grades are not required and almost no one sends them. He said “there’s still time” and then instructed my son to have his counselor submit them. The counselor got that done in the morning, and she and my son received confirmation emails from both Mr. Felton AND the COE. I wouldn’t play around with this one. The COE list of admissions requirements has this as a requirement not an option. Here’s the link to the page. Scroll down about halfway to the section titled “Application Requirements.”

Last year is was around 12/11.
good luck
Does anyone have an idea from previous years around when the ED decision will come out? I know the Cornell website says “Mid December” but I was wondering if anyone knew a bit more specifically around what date or week to look out for it from past pools.
@buffalobills If you read just a few posts back, you’ll see that someone called and asked the admissions office and was told December 10th. Regardless, they will send you an email about 3 days beforehand to let you know the specific time and date with a link for you to log in and check your decision, which is nice, considering another school my daughter has applied to provides no notification when the decision is up, requiring the applicant to just continually log in and keep checking their status to see if their application is in review or not.
wow that is so scary i am so excited
i applied to ILR but I sent in my Q1 grades
@TXMom2016 I also asked my GC to send quarterly report yesterday. In my commonapp, it now says, downloaded. But, I didn’t receive any confirmation email from COE. No update to Application Checklist either.
My To Do List now compressed from 3 to 1. They must be working on it this week.
Another 14 days for decision. GL!
