Cornell ED Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

I know OP is from Kenya. Did any one from another region get the same email?

When did he get that email?

Not sure where this financial aid portal is for domestic students. Can you help?

No idea sorry!

Type in “Cornell Financial aid update” on google and I think it’s the first link.
On Cornell’s website, it’s with a big red banner. It is the same log-in for the status update. Please let me know if you see anything when u log in. Thanks

Thank you. Mine says same as yours. “No current to do item information found.”

how bad is it if I did not know about this financial aid portal or its to-do list?

probably quite

@user_9614705: Exactly zero bad!

I didn’t know until today and would have been fine without knowing.

Sometimes, this place causes so much unnecessary stress.

We will all find out Thursday at 7pm. Most won’t get in. Some will be accepted. Some will be deferred. And yes, some of us will received a straight rejection.

You also should remember that at this level, it is pretty much a lottery. This is my brother’s CC account that he used 2 years ago. If you knew his stats/extracurriculars/scores/etc, you would have thought he would have been accepted anywhere he wanted. He applied EA to Harvard and was deferred and then denied. He is currently a second year at UChicago and Harvard could offer him a full ride today and he still wouldn’t leave Chicago.

Point is, it is out of your control now. And because there are so many qualified kids, it is really no reflection on you if you are deferred or denied.

We will all go on to go to college and live our lives and almost everyone will graduate whatever college they went to and couldn’t imagine having gone to another place.

Just breathe, everyone. We survived 2020. We can do anything!

oh ok thanks! I have Federal Tax Schedule 1 & Federal Verification Worksheet listed as to-do items, even though I thought I did all the IDOC stuff…

I’m pretty sure this is quite bad cuz it says the tax schedule was due the 21st of November (federal verification it says is due in 2022, but I’ve read that you should aim to do that as soon as possible) and there’s no way I can afford Cornell w/o aid. Regardless, I am big chillin and actually quite certain I didn’t get in anyway!

Whatever financial stuff you haven’t handed in, do it ASAP. Other than that, there’s no point in crying over spilt milk. The best you can do is wait and hope for the best.

The financial aid deadlines doest matter with your application. They only want you to submit the aid forms so you could get fin aid decision with your actual decision. It is good to submit it as quickly as possible as you might get surprised by the tuition you have to pay.
If anyone got an email from Cornell saying they have to submit forms I feel like they are likely to be accepted only because it makes sense to email them if they got admitted. I don’t know just my instinct.

You should get your incompleted financial aid info completed as soon as you can. If you’re admitted and it’s not completed it only holds up your aid package.

Also you don’t get you financial aid package with your decision anyway. It comes a few days later.

If you have a GpA just shy of a 4.0 then a high test score is basically no different than a near perfect GPA. It’s all relative though because if someone comes from a high school that is deemed to be not rigorous and has a mediocre GPA or even a 4.0 then they better have a high test score but that probably won’t cancel out if they have a high score and lower GPA from a mediocre high school no matter what. Grades and Rigor are almost always weighted more heavily than test scores.

There are plenty of 4.0 students who don’t make it into Cornell as well as plenty of 36/1600 testers that don’t. If we could all read tea leaves wed be millionaires. In 3 days we will know.

Hey everybody, is your checklist still on portal?

yes. Why?

yes why wouldn’t it be…still 3 more days

Also, pretty sure they aren’t emailing a notification that decisions are available They last did that two years ago. It looks like last year they finally upgraded the portal and decisions were available there.

Financial aid pages may look different in the coming days than those that didn’t apply for financial aid. I vaguely recall something like that 2 years ago but it may have also been bs started as I honestly don’t remember anything looking different with my daughter’s page leading us to think she was or wasnt’ accepted. This year we didn’t bother applying so thankfully don’t need to get caught up in all that trickery/superstitious stuff.

My daughter sent a fafsa because she sent them everywhere in case needed for merit. There was not anywhere on Cornell’s application to say whether she was or wasn’t applying for aid . She was not applying for aid but how would they know? She never did anything with Cornell financial aid portal and they never commented the fafsa was received - you think because she doesn’t qualify anyway??

tea leaves lmao. A 36 is very different from a 34 though. Fortunately, my school seems pretty rigorous. The avg. gpa to get in from my school is 3.8. fingers crossed
