I’m applying ED to AAP too! I agree in that I can barely find any information online.
Wow! Are you applying to Art as well, or is it architecture or city planning?
I’m applying to Art too!
My daughter is also applying to CALS with a double major; Business and Biology. Worried about the very low 2.9% acceptance rate for the 2019 Dyson School of Business applicants. Can’t find the 2020 admittance allocation for each college. assuming that it was the lower for 2020 based on back of the envelope calcs.
@Sun2003 Are you IS or OOS. My D is OOS. I have no idea what her majors acceptance rate is! It is a tiny major but not sure if that is due to less demand or they keep it tiny!!! Hoping and praying its the former!
Does anyone know any stats for OOS applicants to CALS, particularly for animal science?
About 35% of the Class of 2023 and Class of 2024 have been from NY. I’m not sure they break that out by major/college. There is a quota of students that they accept from NYS.
Also @sun2003 as long as she plans to stay within CALS one can double major, however, you don’t necessarily have to declare a major until after sophomore year. Dyson is the hardest program to get into at Cornell. It’s probably easier to apply straight to CALS and then try to do the double major which isn’t that difficult from that point on as it’s not that difficult to change between schools once in. Most of Dyson also seems to be New Yorkers.

So are the decisions made now? If yes, why are the results released on 17th? Are there other processes to go through before it?
The decisions almost definitely are already made. Between now and the 17th, they have to do some housekeeping stuff, update everyone’s portal, and make some last minute changes if necessary. Stuff always comes up last minute, so that is why they give themselves time between making and releasing decisions.
No. They work right up until the end. Classes are still going on and some of the people involved in the reading of applications are professors so there is a huge process. A couple days before the decision they usually send an email with a link for checking your decision. Maybe they’ve finally updated things and put it right into the portal. If you’re accepted depending where you live, you will receive an acceptance letter up to a week after you’re admitted. I don’t know if they send rejection or deferred letter. Also, one thing about Cornell that other colleges don’t do is that your applicant is reviewed by the individual college. So the AO is not actually reviewing 9000 applications. If 2000 students applied to CALS then CALS reviews 2000 applications. So while it’s overwhelming for anyone, it’s not as horrible as it could be if it’s one group having to review 2400 additional applications. It’s 7 schools reviewing that many more and more than likely the majority of them went to the test blind schools as well as A&S their biggest school.
This weekend is probably the final weekend of reviewing and then things will be finalized on Monday or so. I know for alumni who did interviews Dec 8 was the blackout date for them. Meaning the applicants could not contact them after that. Also, considering Nov 30 was the last date that you could submit supplemental information, I can’t imagine they completed a review of everyone in 11 days. Furthermore, my son’s school didn’t send in his Q1 grades as recommended by COE like they were supposed to and they sent them this week and they acknowledged receiving them and putting them in his file. So no one really knows what is going on, but either way, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Ivies generally all release around the same time in mid-December. Also, financial aid also has to get their stuff completed because those get sent out within a few days of acceptances as well and those people should be regularly checking their portals to see if that information is complete.
Has the office of financial aid contact any international students about sending documents? If any international student residing outside the US was contacted, please reply and (if possible) state your country.
I am an international student too and Cornell has not contacted me regarding submission of extra financial information.
Does the receipt of that email from Cornell indicate anything with regards to acceptance?
No. Did anyone get such an email?
@Gauri34 Yes I’ve heard that some people got that email
I do not think so. I think it just means they did not have all their items complete.
But don’t you think that they send that email to those who are likely to get accepted? They wouldn’t send a person that email if they are not on the acceptance list… just saying…
Check the same threads from prior years and that may give you some insight.
I know internationals are need aware so perhaps it is slightly different. But it may also depend what information they are seeking from those applicants too and you may have already provided such information.
I also ED ILR. GPA 3.8. ACT:36. I don’t love my essays either. I hear the result is coming out Thursday. I terrified and depressed.
I’m also Cornell ILR ED. GPA : 3.8
