Cornell Engineering without SAT II Science Test

I originally did not intend to apply to Cornell because I did not think I had a chance at getting in. However, I had good test scores across the board and got very close to obtaining the absolute highest GPA that is possible at my school first semester senior year, which was a big jump up from my previous GPAs, so I decided to apply.

Anyway, I have taken the ACT, SAT and SAT II (Math I, Math II, Literature). I was unaware when I applied (because I chose to do so towards the end of the year), but Cornell's College of Engineering requires one SAT II Math and one Science test. Obviously I have the Math test scores but am missing the Science. I emailed Cornell and they said if I were to take the January 28th SAT, the scores "might" arrive in time and of course I would not be able to see them before hand.

Here's the problem: I have not taken Biology or Chemistry for 2 years and although I am good at Physics, I am taking it this year and we are only halfway through discussing all of the basic concepts, so I don't think I would do well enough on the SAT II Physics test (i.e. >700). So, does anyone know if it is at all possible to be admitted to Cornell's College of Engineering without submitting an SAT II Science test or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? I want to major in mechanical engineering or engineering physics so I do not wish to go to the ILR school, nor did I choose the "apply to 2 schools" option on the application.

i think your best bet would be to call the admissions office and talk to them about it. it’s possible that, if your application was outstanding other than the missing score, they would overlook the subject test; however, only they can answer that.

good luck!

I don’t think so. If you don’t have all the required aspects of the application in, including the SAT II science score, then I believe they automatically reject you, even if you are an IMO gold medalist. But I could be wrong.

Sounds like Cornell laid out the facts well. You should take the January SAT in Physics, sign for rush scoring, then hope that cornell get’s it in time. You don’t need a great score on the SAT physics. Aim for 650+. I was admitted to CoE with a 710 SAT Physics, although i did get a 5 on the exam.

i think that’s a reasonable suggestion, though i don’t think rushing your scores really helps, as cornell receives them instantaneously over the internet anyway. again, try calling and see what they say.
