On the Financial aid application https://www.finaid.cornell.edu/forms/upload/Freshman-FA-Application-US_Perm-Res-2010.pdf it asks my parents something about the W-2 forms (P.3, the SIXTH part), do you know what I shall put? My parents and I don't really understand.

Thank you very much.

Are you talking about this?

“Write in payments to tax-deferred pension and savings plans (paid directly or withheld from earnings) as reported on your W-2 forms in box 12, codes D, E, F, G, H, and S. Include untaxed portions of 401(k) and 403(b) plans. $_________________.00”

If you look on your w-2 forms in box 12, is there anything there? If not, then you don’t have anything to report. If there is something there, then this is were you report it.

Basically, Cornell counts all taxable and non-taxable income. So if your parents defer income into their 401(k) for example pre-tax, Cornell is going to count it even though it is now in a retirement account because it came out of income.

Money that was already in a retirement account, they won’t count.

Hope that helps
