Cornell Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@Boroboro you still have a shot. Keep in mind not all TO’s take the transfer option also some of the TO’s don’t meet the requirements needed and therefore get lumped together with regular transfers.

Does anyone here apply for engineering (specifically ECE) this year?

@SnatchCat thank you!!!

I applied ORIE @eceengineer

In case anyone is curious- I went through Cornell’s Common Data Set, and for the past 3 years their transfer acceptance rate has been around 17-20%. Not sure how much of that is accounted to Guaranteed Transfers. If you’re applying to other schools I’d definitely check out their Common Data Set. It’s a good insight to their transfer acceptance rate and yield, especially since it’ll tell you how many people were taken off the waitlist

@futur3clssof2o2o That’s good to know, but the overall acceptance rate dropped by 4% this year. Not to mention, it makes the transfer admissions process more competitive for transfer students.

All my requirements are checked off, and I am still waiting on my decision. I wonder when they will release the admission decisions for transfer students.

Decisions go out depending on the school you applied to.

I always consider regular decision and transfer acceptance rates differently because for example, Vanderbilt has a 10% regular decision acceptance rate, but their transfer acceptance rate is a steady 30%.

They’re always going to take the same amount of people in regular decision, but the rate really depends on how many people apply. Even though they accept, for example, 1000 students, the acceptance rate will be lower if 50,000 students apply versus 40,000.

Transfers are totally different because it’s more school/major specific, and what’s heavily weighted for regular decision (like ACT) isn’t as weighted for transfer. Plus transfers have significantly less number of applicants in comparison to regular decision. The amount of transfer taken depends on the class size they already have, and the amount of people per school/per major. But generally, transfer acceptance rates have been steady
@Sergozoria

Hi I’m new in here, but I just wanted to clarify regarding our SAT/ACT scores. I am applying as an incoming junior to the college of Arts & Sciences as an Econ major, so I’ve been in college for almost 2 years now, am I still required to send my SAT scores? It says on the website that you should send the scores if you’ve taken the SAT/ACTs but is it a requirement for them to start reviewing my application?

@jstack98 I’m an applicant for CALS so I don’t know about CAS but my major didn’t require SAT/ACT scores so I didn’t send them. I believe it is school and major specific.

I just called the college of arts & sciences, who said the first wave of admissions decisions would be sent out on May 1st :frowning: I’m not patient enough!

Hey guys, for anyone who is worried about being able to re-submit materials that haven’t been checked off in case they can’t find them, I just called and they said that the April 15th deadline may be extended because they are still processing documents. I sent my college report in like late February/early March and it’s the only thing not checked off. Try not to worry guys we’ll get through this :smiley:

Anyone know about humec?

Are all non GT applications sent to the selection committee? Just wondering.

Hello everyone! Cornell just updated my high school transcript on the portal after about 2 months. So for those of you worried about it, I’m sure it will update soon! Best of luck to everyone!

@KG5APR All non-GT’s and GT’s are sent to committee for review. It’s a standard process so no need to worry.

@idekidc I sent an email inquiring about the first wave of decisions, I’ll update when I get a response! or maybe I’ll just call tomorrow

Tbh, based on prior GT threads, I don’t think they are, especially since GT’s don’t write essays and have recommendation letters. It’s likely that there’s one person (the admissions director GT’s have been in contact with) that checks over the applications and requirements. If they don’t meet those requirements, then they will be sent to the full committee @KG5APR

@socal17 please do!! Thank you! :slight_smile:

@idekidc Yes, you are correct. GT’s are not sent to full committee unless they are a borderline applicant ( not meeting the GPA or not taking the required classes etc.) On the other hand, at the bottom of your checked list, it will state “Your application has been forwarded to admissions for review” this is just a standard process for applications.
