Cornell Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@cocoa801 If you go to selfservice.admissions.cornell.edu, under “Check Application Status”, and scroll down to the bottom, it should be right below your SAT Subject Test Scores. In a bordered box, it will say, “Your materials have been received. Your application has been forwarded to the admissions staff for review.”

Those of you who got accepted. Your Transfer Transcript shows initiated or ordered?

Are the vast majority of transfers that are accepted GTs?

@inception97 ordered

@quitenervous Congratulations! If you don’t mind me asking, what was the focus of your ILR essay? I wrote about my passion for protecting and improving labor rights for low-wage workers like domestic workers and how that connects to my own lived experiences. I just want to see if accepted ILR students have written about similar topics.

I’m so nervous for Cornell. My older sister is a junior there and I was rejected ED last year (I later found out one of my teachers wrote a really terrible letter of rec, among other things that were wrong with my application). This year, I wrote probably some of the best essays I’ve written – period – for my application. I really love Cornell and hope that something works out.

Also applied to 6 other ivies (excluding Harvard) for transfer, as well as NYU Stern. I’m definitely focused on prestige (especially since for business recruitment, an ivy-league degree is very helpful), but Cornell is the one that matters the most to me…

Applied CAS for a major in Statistical Science. Just obsessively checking the portal day by day to see when I might get my decision!

Best of luck to everyone else in the process. I’ll be on this thread until the very end boys

@idfwmyschool Sorry to hear that about your teacher recommendation among other things. If you dont mind me asking, what are your stats? (GPA both college and high school, SAT, ECs, etc) Im sorry to inform you, but most colleges keep previous letters of recommendation and essays if you have previously applied to that school. Best of luck though.

For those of you who were accepted, how are the financial aid summaries looking if you applied? Or have those not been released yet?

If the portal says that our application is currently in review does that mean our decision will be released next Tuesday… or no

do you mean “forwarded for review” @urmom666

It doesn’t mean we get it next Tuesday no

Just because it’s forwarded for review doesn’t mean its in review. at this point we could hear back in May. There’s never a guarantee

Well that’s unfortunate

are there any accepted students whose transfer transcript still said initiated on the day of the decision?

What is the “pin trick?”

@thehoff007 Yeah, I do realize that :(.

Here are my stats:

Current School: top CS program, very good math program, big state school
College GPA (4.0), midterm report was around a 3.6, but teachers wrote comments that most of the work wasn’t done yet, and that they couldn’t really predict an accurate grade
Still got Dean’s List for first semester, though
High school GPA: 3.65 UW, 4.3 W (prob like top 11-12% of class based on overall knowledge, but I couldn’t confirm this because my school didn’t rank)
SAT: 1550/1600 on the new one, ACT was 33 (34 SS) but didn’t submit that since I thought the SAT was better anyway.

EC’s are going to be a bit condensed so that I don’t get doxxed (not that I really care, but anyway)

  • Captain of robotics team (FRC) and main builder; went to big competitions a few times, and won awards on state and world level
  • Wrote a business proposal for CS program in highschool to secure 1000s in funding for it from local tech firms
  • Handled logistics for events for a non profit, and raised over 10,000 during those events
  • Former president of investments club (competed in some trading competitions, placed relatively well, taught other students about financial markets)
  • In selective program at current college, which involves a few activities
  • Consultant at a student organization; using data-driven feedback to make org. more efficient
  • Trumpet for all of high school and still play independently. Won some awards for that, albeit not super significant
  • Do independent trading with a quantitative background (trading algorithms, technical analysis, etc.)
  • Former paid intern at a financial services company (basically sales/client presentations, but also did statistical backtesting for them)

I also got accepted as an intern at a company in the Dow Jones industrial average, where I’ll be working on product development. Additionally, got into a very selective consulting group on campus for next year. I submitted proof of my offer and the acceptance to the program for all the schools that I applied to as additional materials.

Feel free to PM me if you wanna talk more. Really nervous for my apps to the schools :\

Oh okay, thank you! @daidai16

Oh okay, thank you! @daidai16

I saw a good question go unanswered and I’m interested in the answer. For anyone with a decision, did your financial aid say ORDERED or INITIATED before you were notified?

Hello guys, I read some people’s application essays and became more confused. Should I write something like transferring to Cornell is my only choice because Cornell —. Am I supposed to focus on why only Cornell? Not Penn or Columbia. (a lot of you wrote that you grew up and would like to go into Cornell, but didn’t give reasons why you want to major in some subjects at Cornell)
