800 on SAT 2’s (Math II, Chem)
5s on Calc AB and Chem, 4s on AP Physics I, World History, and Comp Sci
ECs: Basketball Team for 3 years, Science National Honor Society, National Hispanic Scholar
College:
1st Sem GPA: 3.91 (Computer Science 1 (A), Calculus II (A), General psychology (A-), Physics 1 (A)
Mid term report: 4.0 (Physics 2 (A), Introductory Bio (A), Multivariable calculus (A), Introductory Economics (A))
ECs: Society of physics students, build team (built cool demonstrative apparatus), volunteering
Recs: One from math professor was solid because he was young and was experienced with recs, one from physics professor which was simple and stated that his course was difficult.
Essays: Hands down what got me in. I really wanted to be at a school with a more diverse education and coming from a tech school there really aren’t any foreign language/english courses to enrich your education. I spent a very long time writing them and really geared it towards why Cornell is exactly where I can reach my fullest potential as a physics major and as somebody looking for a truly diverse and enriched education.
Hooks: Hispanic, First-Generation Student
Good luck to everyone who has yet to receive their decision!
Highschool GPA: 3.9 weighted / 3.6 unweighted
Very few EC’s and volunteering experiences
Old SAT ~1500
College GPA: 4.00
LoR from an English Department Assistant Dean and my physics professor (wish I could’ve picked up another one)
Many volunteering experiences involving STEM and children, Phi Theta Kappa member and in a few clubs
Best essay: Cornell’s required essay (I spent days working on this and received extra help)
Good essay: Cornell’s special circumstances (Won an award with this essay)
Worst essay: Common App (I rushed this in 20 minutes)
I had enough credits to transfer in as a second semester Sophmore
I wish I had reviewed my essays to really look for small errors. For example, I misspelled a class name PHYS instead of PSYC. Also, I should've spent more time on my essay because I was working on it up to the deadline, and I wasn't aware of the required Common App essay.
@ChadisWack if I had to guess, yes. At this point I think it’s up to the deans or assistant deans in our particular field if we are getting in. I’ve seen mechanical and computer science decisions so far, but nothing for civil and electrical. I’m thinking the longer we wait the better! Looks like mostly rejections at this point for engineering applicants.
According to the pin trick, I was supposed to get my decision next tuesday but i got it today! lol and i got rejected. applied to CAS btw (: good luck to everyone else still waiting <3
If anyone who applied for Dyson gets a transeval update or transfer transcript switches to order then let us know. I’m still waiting to hear from Cornell.
