HI! This is my first time posting here~

I know it's pretty late to ask this question, but Cornell his recently contacted me to apply to its HEOP program. However, I heard it is only for academically and economically disadvantaged students.

The question I have right know is that: If I don't apply to HEOP program, I will not be accepted as a regular student?

I have pretty good academic stats, though
(1520 R&M, both 800s on Math and Chem Satii, top 1% of my class, and for extracurricular I do robotics, math team, and won many awards for these.)

For people applied to Cornell before. Should I apply to this program? Or should I wait for RD?

BTW, I’m applying to College of Engineering and declaring Mechanical Engineering as my major.

Yes you’re right that HEOP is for academically and economically disadvantaged students. If you don’t take the HEOP offer then you’re rejected from Cornell. The fact that they tell you told you to apply to HEOP means you didn’t get in through regular admissions. If you apply to HEOP, atleast they will evaluate to see if you can get into HEOP (not guaranteed) but if you get in, you will be an HEOP student at Cornell.

I got in to the Cornell HEOP for college of engineering
and before the HEOP decisions were even out I got a “likely letter” from the admissions office.
The letter didn’t mention anything about HEOP, but does that still mean that I would not have passed the regular admission criteria?
