I am a transfer student and recently accepted by both schools. I'm having a hard time choosing between the two.

Cornell Hotel Administration:
Pro: Strong alumni network. Ivy League. I am interested in working in this industry.
Con: Too professional for me(?). Too cold...(I'm from SoCal). Such a HUGE school (I cannot imagine taking 45 minutes to go to classes from my dorm).

Barnard:
Pro: The city. I like the women college surrounding. My boyfriend goes to Columbia.
Con: I might need to go to grad school after graduation which does not fit in my plan. I know some Barnard girls and don't really like them...

Overall, I like both schools. But I need to choose one...

I cant comment on the schools themselves, but Ithaca is really hot during the summer (as hot or hotter than SoCal) and is pleasant during the fall and spring. It is a very small town though so if you like NYC you will most likely feel stifled in Ithaca. The commute to NYC isnt convenient at all unless. you have a car (to drive yourself to the airport) and are willing to pay for flights, so you wouldnt be able to see your boyfriend that often.

I have connections at both schools so know them well. Are those the only two schools to which you applied to for transfer … because it is a very odd set of schools. They have almost nothing in common other than being east and being excellent schools. Have you visited both … I would think virtually everyone would have a preference for one or the other.

(PS - two comments on your comments on the school. First, the weather in NYC and Ithaca is much more similar than dissimilar … whatever difference there is is minor. Second, Cornell’s campus is big but it should not take 45 minutes to get to class … the longest distance is probably just about 1 mile (or 20 minutes) from a dorm to class (and the hotel school is in the middle of campus so not that far).
