Cornell Housing question

I know that housing is done by lottery. I don't want to be in a townhouse or program house. Is there a chance I can be placed in those if I don't request it?

Thanks

nope…if you didn’t select one of the town/program houses, you’ll be placed in one of the residential dorms.

I believe you can be put in a townhouse, as they are viewed as regular dorms. I think I’ve heard they are included in the “quad” designation. Could be wrong…by the way, the kids in the townhouses really like them overall. All the dorms are fine - more about the people you’re with. Most kids make the best of any situation.

Others have posted about being put in program houses regardless of what they requested, as well. The school is going to fill every space they have, so some students will be placed in townhouses and program houses if the space is needed. Requests are considered, but it is all supply and demand. I wouldn’t worry so much. You will find friends and enjoy your year.

The Class of 2015 has more students than they ideally wanted…I think that’s been addressed for the Class of 2016. My S is in a “triple” that is really, clearly a double. However, he’s had a great year!

Select a single or a double and you’ll get a regular dorm. My freshman year, tons of kids who requested doubles got singles anyway…
