I was admitted to both humec in Cornell and Brown university. i'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of each and was looking for input.

Well, what do you want to do? Do you want a larger or smaller school? More urban or more rural? An open curriculum?

Brown pros: Emma Watson

Cornell is in the middle of nowhere dude. Go to Brown. Awesome place, better prestige, and you have the one and only Emma Watson.

This shuldn’t even be a competition.

Cornell is not in the middle of nowhere. That would be Deep Springs. Ithaca is not huge, but it is a very nice college town and highly underrated.

[NY Times - A look at Ithaca](http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/14/greathomesanddestinations/14havens.html)

Not everyone likes cities, you know. For those of us with a liking for the outdoors, Cornell is pretty darned attractive.

whaddupsun - Have you visited either? How do the costs compare?

I’d have to consider costs, but all things being equal - I would forge my own path (intellectually) and go to Brown. The open curriculum is a beautiful thing ;-)

What are you majoring in? Brown has better prestige but Cornell has more research opportunities (so I’ve heard)

Ithaca really is a great place. The only reason I would pick Brown over Cornell would be for the open curriculum. So basically If I were you it would be a question of whether you want the open curriculum or not.

Or, corollary to above, do you affirmatively want the curriculum/ program of studies that awaits you in Hum Ec. Or not.

i’m in human ecology right now and it’s really flexible. i only need 30 credits in my major (though i will do more) and then another 12 in my college, which is still stuff i’m interested in and would have ended up taking electives from anyway. i would pick cornell all over again.

PM me if you have any specific questions or anything :)
