Cornell ILR

Yesterday Cornell ILR school sent me a huge packet filled with information. Are they interested in me? Am I within their range of acceptance?

I know it can feel that way, but it doesn’t mean anything when you get college brochures in the mail. Universities are businesses and they want lots of people to apply. The more that apply, the lower the acceptance rate, which can increase the ranking. There may be some method to the madness, but overall it doesn’t mean they want YOU. They want you to apply.

Sorry if that was harsh. You may very well be in range of acceptance. How would they know this until you apply (maybe good SAT scores).

You’ll be getting lots of college brochures and emails. Don’t take it so personally.

To add on to above response, if when completing your College Board student info profile you happened to indicate an interest in student gov’t, Model UN, Model Congress, etc, this combined with your SAT scores may have triggered the mailers. My son received these also, having never expressed interest in ILR. I found it amusing as the college he had visited at Cornell never wrote to him at all, but ILR continued to send mailers and emails.

My daughter got a beautiful packet from Cornell ILR (among others) and she had not expresed any interest in gov’t etc. It seemed a bit random.

@CT1417 & @Renomamma my D had the same exact experience. Went to info session at College of Human Ecology where they had her fill out info card, but she never received anything from them, but did get mailings from ILR…she ended up being accepted ED by CHE, so in her experience the mail, or lack of it made no difference.

We are all the way from Nevada, and, although we did a general tour at Cornell, D never filled anything out. She got accepted ED to CAS. ILR would not have been for her, so it did seem totally random.

HS Juniors just get an onslaught of college contacts and it’s a little sad when they don’t realize it’s basically advertising, and they take it personally.
