Basically I've completely all portions of the waivers requirements except one and it's caused me a little problem :')

They want TWO third party letters (with letterhead) and to be honest I was barley able to get one at at was. My mother was very private about her experiences and so we don't really have any pastors or therapists to give confirmation. The divorce happened in another country too, so it's difficult to get a hold of people.

To be clear my father hasn't had any contact or provided financial support since I was three - do you think Cornell will be understanding or just completely shun me?

Can I get some advice? Thanks :)

They need to be really sure, for obvious reasons. How long have you been out of that country? Why don’t you have people in the country you are in now who know you have no contact? You will have to contact the admissions office to see if the waiver will be considered without two.

The admissions office (understandably) doesn’t answer e-mails at all. I suspect they’re overloaded. I can certainly have people from here explain we have no contact, but they wouldn’t be on letterhead.

They want letterhead as a way of verifying the veracity of the statements. If the statements were not on letterhead, you could essentially write the letters yourself and they would not know any difference. Is one of the statements from you GC?

If you want their money, you need to comply with their rules.

Ask your GC at your highschool for one. High school GCs are experienced in writing the statements and know exactly what is needed for these waivers. Essentially, a lot of detail is not needed, in most cases. It’s just that the parent is a total vacuum when it comes to the school. Not listed to get transcripts, never shows up for things, is non existent as far as the school knows. Do you go to a church? How about a coach or the asst principal of the school? How about your physician? Never hears or gets payments from a dad, not a sign or whiff of him around is all that needs to be written.

I got my GC for the first one. They actually replied right now and told me there are no exceptions. Fair enough I guess.
