I'm considering transferring into CALS in my junior year to major in AEM, but I don't want to live on campus. Any one have an idea about how far the off campus housing is and how much it usually costs per month? I looked on Cornell's website but it doesn't allow me to access the off campus housing website since I have to be a student to do so.

uh...off-campus means that cornell does not handle it...

therefore prices can range from rents like 500/month to well over 2k/month...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION...

i recommend you check out ithaca.craigslist.org to get a rough idea...

You can live very close to campus in off campus housing near North and West Campus for around $450-550/month. If you want to live in collegetown, that'll cost you much more ($800/month).

anywhere is pretty reasonable besides college ave and dryden

yeah..i live off campus and pay 350 a month for my rent..which includes a kitchen, dining, and living space (shared with two other people)..and my own room...including utilities. only 5 min to campus!

hmm, I pay $700 a month. Then again, my place is nicely decked out and just renovated.

sashimi.. where do you live?

you'll be paying around $1600 a month in rent to live in a one bedroom in the new building at 400 college avenue. 312 is a little bit cheaper. If you go to a two bedroom with common area shared between two people it drops to around $1000 a month.

it really depends on where you want to live/how much you care about the quality of the place in which you decide to live. for a nice apartment in a decent location, rent is going to be over 700 per month (227 Linden is pretty nice and in the 700 range). if live a few blocks away from collegetown in a house or an older apartment, rent will be cheaper. my friend found a place for 300-something a month a few blocks up dryden, but it's pretty run-down.

oh yeah i forgot to mention that's the upper limit of rent anywhere at cornell.

Most off campus housing is cheaper than dorms, except with collegetown as mentioned above. You are better renting gunhill or something which is new and ridiculously nice. it's just a bit far.

if you're an upperclassman you probably want to be in collegetown, since it's much more social than gun hill/campus hill/any area not in collegetown
