@trevormac Same here! Although I am a Meinig Scholar. Congrats! Does this make Cornell your number one choice or all you still considering other options?
seperate
@momver I can’t speak from someone who is in the CoE, as I know that the engineering department is considerably much harder to get into. However, I will recommend that your son should still show interest to Cornell by sending them a end of year report/letter showing that your son finished off his senior year strong and is willing to work even harder at Cornell. There are so many individuals who have strong scores and extracurricular activities who apply to Cornell and especially the College of Engineering, and only a few can be selected. A waitlist is definitely hurts, but the most your son can do is keep working hard and do his best to keep showing interest towards Cornell. Good luck to your son and I hope to see him next year if it works out! Don’t give up.
@trevormac Hey congrats a ton on that achievement! I’m also a current Cornell Tradition Fellow, and I must say that this year has been a total blast for me. With the scholarship money aside, meeting new friends and going on different service trips have been some of the highlights this past year. Only about 4% of accepted Cornell Students gain that scholarship award so that’s something you should be proud of! Let me know if you have any questions about Tradition. Just know that as freshmen you will be required to partake in 50 hours of paid work, 50 hours of community service, and 50 hours of service from the Cornell Tradition.
I received the same email. Sounds like it will be awesome to be involved with the program. I’m still deciding on which university to attend but Cornell keeps moving up the list for me! Anyone here that can give more insight on the program than what was in the email and on the Cornell website. Personal experiences would be great. Thanks
I was selected as a Hunter R. Rawlings III Cornell Presidential Research Scholar!
I called the financial aid office and admitted students should expect a financial aid award letter Tuesday the 31st.
I got the same email
Thank you!! I’m torn between Cornell, Johns Hopkins and Northeastern Honors. I have to wait on financial aid but Cornell is seeming like a really good option.
Hey guys! Just got waitlisted by Cornell human ecology. Does anyone know what the yield rate for humac is? And does it depend on the major because I heard BHFHs is much more difficult to get in than other majors?
Congrats to everyone who got accepted!
I am going to attend UT Austin in the Business Honors Program. I was accepted to some pretty great schools anyways: NYU Stern, Georgetown, USC, Emory, UVA, Georgia Tech. I really want to save money by going to UT, so getting the rejection from Cornell just made it easier
I can honestly say that the college admissions process is incredibly subjective. It’s incredibly important who your portray in your application through essays and ec’s. I was rejected from UMich LSA today, and I was aiming for the Ross Biz School. It was one of my top schools and I spent the most time on Mich out of all my applications. I guess I didn’t portray myself the right way.
Your son shouldn’t feel bad. CS is incredibly tough to get into at any college. I know someone who was rejected from Cornell ED for CS last year and ended up at UMich, and I think he enjoys it all the same.
@Bishoptoaster Thank you appreciate it.
I still have not received a decision yet… Anyone else in the same boat?
@trevormac I also got the offer to be a tradition fellow! My interviewer mentioned it to me- she believed that to initially qualify for this one had to have had a job, a sport, and some sort of volunteer work (which applied to me, so I’m guessing that’s the case?)
My Child: Northeast/Public.
Applied ED. Stats: ~ ACT 35; 4.0/4.5. No Cornell related hooks. ECs: State/local Leadership awards, multiple president/officer positions, multi-sport all-county, all-conf, captains, MVP, etc. Was told exceptional candidate during winter interview and then … deferred (and by deferred, I mean, crushed). Fortunately, recovered rather quickly as good news from some EA schools came in shortly thereafter.
Accepted this week. Would have happily attended (ED), but with COVID-19 considerations, probably not. #Yield
Leaning towards others now including Columbia.
Many thanks to everyone for sharing information over the last year. For seniors and juniors, know that this child was accepted by some terrific schools, but also rejected by a number of great schools so don’t put all your eggs/dreams in one basket. Brutal process. Despite the unfortunate ED result in this case, still strongly recommend ED if that is a viable option for the juniors reading this.
Good luck to all.
@Prof1754 COVID19 considerations point you away from Ithaca and to New York City?
Hello Everyone,
I have been waitlisted so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to increase my chances of getting in at this stage?
Catmouse, that’s a good question, I’ve been waitlisted for CS…
@FallAutumnLeaf I’m not quite sure what the yield rate is, but it’s built in to the admissions system. Getting in off the waitlist depends how many people declined admission that they university did not account for. If the yield is lower than normal, then they take from the waitlist.
@tenseMom It’s an incredibly arbitrary process. People also tend to look at the acceptance rate and think that it’s a ten percent chance he or she will get in. Once you factor in gender, ethnicity, legacies, recruited athletes, children of donors, geography, the probability because extremely low that any one person gets in.
Re: #355 & 456, pretty ironic, given that some (uninfected) of members of my family specifically chose Ithaca as the place they would go in order to avoid all that stuff. Has there even been so much as a single case reported from Ithaca so far?
There would be a different risk exposure come the Fall, since many students hail from in and around NYC. But by then there will either be mitigation methods available or the semester won’t start. Not just there, but basically all over. Just my guess.
