can anyone login to the housing portal yet?
@3musketeers why are you asking about the housing portal. All of us here applied RD and we haven’t even gotten decisions back yet.
@MrElonMusk some schools are not very good at containing information leakage. For some schools, people find out they can login to the housing portal well before decisions are released. There has been some discussion of this in the forums for other schools.
@3musketeers What is the purpose of accessing the housing portal before decisions are released? Are you able to find out about your decision beforehand?
Have you tried to log in @3musketeers ?If so, were you successful?
@3musketeers I can’t login into the housing portal.

Had an informational interview about CALS recently… When I asked why she chose Cornell, she said because it was the best school that took her. I don’t think I made a good impression, but neither did CALS- not as stoked as I was before.
@anxiouswreck , what were you expecting the answer to be?
When we went on college tours, at the end of the tour, the tour guide always made a speech of “why I choose xxx college.” Some gave a passionate speech about students, professors, culture, whatever. Son always said, “don’t believe him/her. He/She chose it because it’s the best college that took him/her.” I wanted to test the theory, so after the speeches, I usually hang around and ask the tour guide in private what other schools they got admitted to. Once you hear the choices, it’s pretty clear that my Son’s premise is correct most of the time.
@bogeyorpar I was hoping to hear features of Cornell that particularly attracted her all these years ago, and why she thought it would be a good fit for her. I obviously already know it is a “good school”– I wanted to hear why. Even if it was an honest answer, it gave me no information about Cornell I already didn’t know.
My interviewer said she chose Cornell because she couldn’t afford to go to UCB which was her dream school…
@WolfHaley , hahaha, that’s a great story. When we toured UCLA, the tour guide kept saying UCLA was her second choice, but since she didn’t get in her first choice, she had to choose UCLA. Honest answer. May not be as beautiful or romantic as others, but that’s the truth most of the time.
Did anyone get mail about financial aid?
Not here. When did yours come, @HERCULES_HERCULES ?
I’m not sure. I went to my grandmother’s house today and it was there. It’s dated ambiguously “February 2018” . It just gave me info about CSS and FAFSA.
My daughter had her “informational chat” with an alum for CALS yesterday. She said despite the billing it felt very much like an interview and the woman said she was going to write up something from it for Cornel. Just FYI for others down the line. My daughter’s done 4 or 5 college interviews so she was prepared; felt like it went fine. The alum said CALS was hard but she thought it was worth it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to check on the portal whether Cornell has received a mid-year grade report? Everything has a green checkmark including transcript but high school sent an update with mid-year grades this week and it’s unclear whether that’s been received.
@knock00 Check the Common App under Recommenders and FERPA. It indicates whether the Mid-Year Report has been sent by your counselor and whether it has been downloaded by Cornell.
Thanks, @Ballsandstrikes !
So if no date shown on the “mid year report” line, it means counselor has not sent the mid-year report?
