Anyone had their “informal meeting” for CALS yet? (I had mine yesterday) I was wondering if this meeting had any significant weight on the rest of the application?
when do decisions come out?
@collegeIZrubbish - Cornell alumni meetings are non evaluative. We have very restricted word counts for our reports and not everyone lives in an area where alumni are available for meetings.
Most likely March 28
Has anyone received their portal link yet from Cornell? I submitted my application through UCA and haven’t yet received a portal nor alumni request
Do Cornell alumni interviewers get to see your Common App or any information about you beforehand? In general do alumni interviewers get to see your grades, extracurriculars, and essay?
No, alumni interviewers do not see anything from the common app. All we get is your name, contact information, HS, which college you applied to, and intended major. All we know is what you choose to share with us. That’s why the meeting is non evaluative.
I received my application portal but nothing in reference to an Alumni Interview, any help? I reside in an area where I’d think there’d be at least a few Cornell alum.
There is nothing you need to do as a student. A regional rep will get your name/contact information and try to connect you with an available alum. Sometimes there aren’t enough volunteers to go around. Don’t ready anything into being offered a meeting or not.
Sounds good, thank you!
My D just finished such an “informal” meeting and it was great. Cornell alumni are kind and friendly.
i am not aware the Cornell offers alumni interview …
I thought Cornell only did interviews for certain majors? My child was surprised when he got a call from a local alumni interviewer??
Interviews are required by some majors, recommended by some, and optional for most.
The only college that still requires interviews is Architecture and Art, and Hotel recommends them. Here’s the scoop directly from the horse’s mouth about interviews and meetings: https://blogs.cornell.edu/admissions/2017/11/24/admissions-interviews/
FWIW (in case anyone is freaking out and thinks not hearing about an optional interview is a bad sign), my d19 was accepted ED for the COE and was never contacted about an alumni interview. We live in an area with active Cornell alumni, but I don’t know if if none were available to interview or if there was another reason. The main point though is that it wasn’t a hint of anything.
Obviously, that wouldn’t apply to the colleges of architecture or hotel.
I had my interview on Sunday—he was very nice and the interview was relaxed, although my interviewer did talk quite a bit about himself…
My son will have interview tomorrow. He applied SHA.
Hey guys I got in ED and I just want to say that you shouldn’t get worried about your stats too much because you never know what they’re looking for! If I had done a chance me, everyone would’ve told me that my stats were too weak for Cornell because I didn’t have straight A’s or a 1500+ SAT. So don’t lose hope if your stats are not perfect! Good luck
D has interview this week for ARTs/Comp Sci.
