Cornell RD Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

@CalDadCA Good luck to your daughter! I’m sure it’ll go well!

I applied to CoE and wasn’t offered an interview.

You can see the specifics in the link above.

My son was contacted last week via email from a Cornell Alumna for an informational meeting. He responded via email the very next day that he would very much like to meet, but then hasn’t heard back in over 5 days. He will try to call today, she also gave her #. Why would someone contact him then not follow through? Should he be concerned.

@yiddopup I wouldn’t worry at all. The interviewers are usually busy professionals, and this is not likely their top priority. Also, the alumni interviews for Cornell have little to no impact on admission decisions. They are primarily informational for the applicant and, in my view, an excellent opportunity to get interview practice in a mostly risk free environment. Good luck!

Cornell alumni meetings are non evaluative. I would not worry about it!

does anyone know what day decisions come out? or what day they came out in the past?

@ejn415627 Yale’s application status portal says that RD decisions will be release on March 28, 2019. Because the Ivies typically release decisions on the same day, it is safe to assume that Cornell decisions will be released on March 28 as well.

I have phone interview tonight.

Do you have to request an interview or are they automatically assigned?

@minniemouse143 Alumni interviews are automatically assigned. I received an email about mine.

Hi there- I received anphyaical letter from cornel today to my parents, basically aknowledging my application and offering assistance/support and extra info. Is this normal? I did not get this from any of the other schools I applied.
Should I be a little optmistic?

Sorry for the typos - writing on the move.
Please let me know if you received a similar letter!

I had a friend in school who got the same… he wants to do ROTC there

Yep, I got the same letter, I think they just send it out to everyone

Yeah, I think March 28 since my deferral letter from UPenn said March 28 for RD.

Any idea when likely letters come out for Cornell?

Does the Hotel School release decisions earlier, do any students from past years know when they come out, and if so by mail or email and a date?

@americandreampls Maybe mid-end feb. Mostly end feb. They are about 100 in number, mainly directed towards recruited athletes. I dont think almost any, if not, any international gets one.

@TheGuy1 How’d you know I’m an international?
Cornell didn’t seem like the type that cared much about athletes, I just assumed it would be more directed towards female engineers.

@americandreampls Dude. The main reason ivies send out LL’s are to lure athletes. So it doesn’t mean anything by you thinking Cornell not ‘being the type that cares much about athletes’. Ivies re NCAA Div. 1schools in most/all sports. They will take pride in their athletic teams.

There is no distinction between gender(s) for LL’s or any admission procedure. Just because there is a female applying for STEM doesn’t mean the admission chances are higher. The admission rate IS higher, but due to the lesser number of STEM applicants that are female. There is no correlation or causation here. The only driving force to bring gender in admissions is for the AdCom to try and keep the Gender Ratio in the Incoming Class balanced.

I didn’t know you were international. I just mentioned the statement: “I don’t think almost any, if not, any international gets one.” as a fact.

If you don’t get an LL, it doesn’t speak anything of your strength as an applicant. It just speaks for the AdCom’s need to lure applicants with certain skills and perspectives that they think the might need in the incoming class for a particular year.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me for any further inquiries.
