@Micc someone, I think maybe on reddit, suggested listing quad before triple because more of the triples are actually the size of a double but with 3 people, while the quads are much larger and better able to accommodate 4 people.
The building choices for on campus freshmen are Balch (women), residential halls, program houses (those are all listed so you can state preference) and townhouses.
Both of my kids opted for a single. They loved it because they could close the door when they wanted privacy or had the door open when they wanted to be social. When it was cold out they were able to study in their room. They made many friends in their dorm. If you have the option I would highly recommend a single. Both of them thanked me later for getting them a single.

@mom2twogirls–Agree that many of the triples are forced from doubles, and in my son’s building, the double used as the triple was not as large as the double used as a double. I think it was the room shape that allowed it to be configured to hold all the furniture needed for three people. Triples will often have a set of bunk beds.
I have never seen a quad so cannot comment. Also agree with @oldfort that the singles do not seem isolated.
@Momofseveral10 Sorry, I did not catch your earlier note. The McMullen Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for engineering students who show promise to be outstanding engineers. There are no other special perks other than the honor of having been chosen. I was a McMullen Scholar at Cornell between '81 and '85. Congratulations on your student having been chosen!
@mom2twogirls @oldfort @CT1417 Thanks for the info. This is the mom here. My son doesn’t want to live alone, he prefers to have some people around although single would have been my choice. He has depression since junior year in high school and while he has been doing much better, I’m wondering if there is someone I should talk to in Cornell just in case he needs support. So many things to decide and we know so little.

I had just typed in cornell 2023 and a bunch of groups came up. There are ones for your child too, if they’re on Facebook.
I also just joined the regular Cornell Parents one and that’s very helpful because the parents of the existing students have answers to the questions you might have.
Did anyone get an email from Cornell to set up Net ID account?
yes. we called admission office, they said it takes 24-48hrs after you accept the admission offer to get the Netid.
Hey guys. I’m an admitted student for the Class of 2023 CAS and I have a question about APs:
So on my Common App I indicated that I’d write 5 AP exams for my senior year. I changed my mind throughout the year and ended up writing 3. I just called the Admission Office and the operator said that I should be fine, but she didn’t seem sure at all. So I’m wondering whether it’s fine if I write less APs exams than what I was admitted with. Could they possibly revoke my decision if I don’t write all 5 of them?

You should be fine with the APs. Stating that you are taking the APs don’t mean anything. People can simply say that they are taking all the APs if it matters in the application process. My counselors never said anything about deciding not to take the APs.

Can someone been there done that shed some light on what the housing assignment number mean?? My son is in high rise 5, so from what I understand, the four digit number starts with a 5 for HR5 and then the floor and then the suite, but what’s the last number with a dash? My son has a -1 after his room number. I couldn’t figure out what it means. TIA!
We (Big Red Class of 2023 Parents) are pretty sure that the -1 just means he is the first person that was assigned to the room. So my daughter’s says -1 because she had a single. Those in a double would be either -1 or -2, etc.
