Cornell RD Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

Hi, I’m an applicant for Architecture major, but I didn’t receive Interview mail until now. Does it means I am already eliminated from University’s selection?(As I think Interview for Architecture is different from that for other majors

Oh, I see on the website that I should complete Interview by Jan.2ed. Such a disaster, I think I have no chance, totally(;_:wink:

@Rapmonster Architecture, Hotel Mgt, and 1-2 other majors at most have an Interview thats offered (in person/virtual). I dont know of the 2nd Jan thing you said, but I wish you all the best for Cornell.

Did you just receive the email or just discovered an email that had been previously sent? If it’s a new email, contact the university and schedule the interview. It’s required and evaluative for architecture.

Has Cornell Arts and Sciences said specifically when they are releasing admission decisions?

@bettertoask They haven’t confirmed it but Ivy Day is March 28 so it’s almost guaranteed to be then

@jdecker9 Yale has 3/28 written as the RD release date on their app portals. So Ivy day is 3/28 confirmed.

Quick question: Do you guys think I have a lower chance of admission if someone else from my school was accepted ED? It’s a fairly small Midwest high school. (130 class)

Did anyone else apply to ilr? I’m stressing out bc apparently we find out eary march

@fsnake01 I did, but I don’t think we find out until ivy day which is march 28.

@LCool23 Nope. THere’s no school based quota for admitting apps.

It might be slightly different if you’re an international, but i doubt school quota’s are true regardless (for any top schools)

I’ve been hearing the ilr applicants find out on ivy day but I’m confused because on cornell’s website they explicitly state letters begin getting sent in late February

It is Late March. See the message on the portal - Thank you for submitting your application to Cornell University. Below please find your application checklist. If your application is complete, we look forward to reviewing it and you will hear from our office in late March with more information about receiving your decision

is hotel school sending decisions out soon? by mail, perhaps?

I just had my CAAAN interview last night.

I’m wondering if the interview really counts or not.

For the select majors the Cornell does offer one, yes. Slightly more than other uni’s evaluative interviews, but not enough (even if the interview goes okay) to tip your decision either way.

CAAAN meetings are non evaluative. If you are an art or architecture major there are formal interviews.

Does Cornell read the common app personal statements of SHA applicants ?

@PianoWinterfell Anything you send to cornell, they read (unless they determine in the initial screening that you cannot academically perform there).

If you pass the 1st screening of what they think performing well there is, they read the rest.

The good news is, 85-90 % of apps pass this ‘test’
