Does anyone know if waitlisted students find out financial aid now or only if they get off the waitlist?

Thoughts on Cornell dining hall food

Only if they get off the WL

TO sounds better with some certainty. The chance to get off the waitlist is only about 1-3% in the past 5 years, so basically consider it as a rejection.

Did any international student get accepted?

Re: dorms @college3996 , Cornell is completely random with dorm assignment. You just rank the type of room you want and then you might get it (or not). Plenty don’t. You may or may not also get the roommate you select. You usually find this out in mid-June, but last year it was delayed a month or so. It is a very easy process there unlike many other schools where it’s a big rush.

But generally, they don’t take a ton off the waitlist. Last year they began taking students before May 1, but in total took just over 100.

It used to be considered top 10 for all colleges, but this year it has sadly gone downhill due to covid and the togo meals and having to have limited options, etc. If they open up back fully next year, expect everything to ramp up and make sure you go to the Cornell Dairy Bar. Best ice cream, also can get in the dining halls!! One other negative, you can’t get and soda in campus dining halls. That is kind of lame imo for those who don’t drink juices, or coffee/tea.

That’s inspiring. My son will stick on the waitlist for the top 10 cafeteria

No real downside in staying on the waitlist is there? What I’ve seen in our case already is that once you pay a deposit somewhere else though, it becomes more real. More things in the process open for you/your child and you can make more plans. Hotel reservations for move in, parent weekend, looking at classes, registration, dorm selection, etc. and the waitlists start to go into the rear view mirror. So on that end, I’m thinking mine is already thinking he won’t jump as he is already very excited about his choice. But, you never know what happens if that waitlist door opens and if it’s meant to be and the excitement for your son is there and wants to switch, then you know that’s also what is meant to be!

That’s true. Once committed, all the activities and engagement may bring him more love to the school he chooses. USC seems a good compromise for us so far with a half tuition. If he, fortunately or unfortunately, gets off the waitlist at Cornell, it means an additional bill of $120k for me. But the chance is very slim, so I won’t lose sleep at night just yet.

Nothing says you have to take the transfer option. Many people every year opt not to transfer. I know plenty of kids who have opted to transfer because Cornell has always been their dream and then there are plenty we know who go to a school with an open mind, love it, find their tribe and stay there. You don’t have to decide now whether to transfer or not. If Northeastern is not for you then you have that option to transfer, if it is your place then it’s an easy decision.

A lot goes into transferring as well. If you join greek at your current school you then have to hope you fit into it at the new school. Not all do. You have to find new friends when groups are already made. Go through a whole new process of learning the ropes. Again, some people thrive with this because it’s what they’ve lived for, some don’t like change. But ultimately, whatever decision you make, it’ll be the right one for you!

Official Cornell response----“We are not able to estimate your chances for admission at this time. However, over the past five years, an average of 2,500 applicants a year have confirmed a place on Cornell University’s wait list. During this time, we have admitted as many as 168 students (and as few as 61) from the wait list. Please keep in mind that no admission offers will be made until we know how many openings there will be and how many applicants have decided to remain on the wait list. As a reminder, Cornell’s wait list is managed college by college.”----2~7%

Speaking of the transfer option, Cornell is my dream school and I know many who get the transfer option do not take it. Is it possible for me to get the transfer option even though I did not receive it? Does Cornell allocate transfer option spots if those who got them rejected them? I read online from an article by a Cornell Admissions Officer that if you email Cornell that you can have a chance at getting on the transfer option list but they have not responded to my email thus far. :(.

For Milstein finalists: How do we feel about the video interview they just sent out?

The 2,500 is the students who accepted to be on the waitlist. I collected the data on their CDS from 2014 to 2020. The averaged waitlist offered are 5,056 in the 7 years. Among those, an average of 3,365 per year have accepted to be on the waitlist. Only 116 of them were eventually admitted, which gives an admission rate of 2.3%. In 2020, 190 students got off the list among 6,750 offered, which translated to 2.8%. It’s the third highest admission rate in the past 7 years, 2014 and 2019 ~3.0%.

Do u know the number of people that are finalists?

This blog post apperently states “If you apply to Cornell and are rejected, shortly afterwards, you may also receive what Cornell calls a “transfer option letter.” Cornell decides who receives these letters based on their standard first-year applications — you don’t have to do anything special to be considered. You also don’t have to do anything to officially accept this option — it’s simply available to you if you choose to use it later on.”

Is it true that you can get accepted to the TO after not initially getting
