Cornell RUSH WEEK

The Psi U thing was more like pledging. A lot of my buddies went to it and said they were locked in the squash court till all the sake was gone.

And the meet the greeks thing is sort of a joke. You’ll probably go around and say whats up to all the guys you know who are there. Each frat sends 2-3 guys, who most of the time know the most freshmen. It’s more of a formality than anything else. You’ll have to walk around in socks (something about not wanting to refinish the floor) and will get your rush shirt (which you’ll probably never wear) there too.

do girls get a break at some point during the first two days, since it’s from 9-5? Or is it just houses straight through?

You get lunch. The first day is brutal. Wear comfy shoes then change when you get to a house.

wear comfortable shoes! there is a LOT of walking!!

CUA11 - how are they letting out to post here?:)

I just got back to Ithaca for rush week, and I’m a bit nervous, as I don’t really know people at most of the fraternities. Is that problematic?

I mean, there are a whole bunch of houses where the people seemed nice and where the parties were good. Even if I don’t know anyone in the house, is it still acceptable to show up to a smoker?

You really shouldn’t be nervous for rush, there will be tons of free food, and parties and events every night. Go to any and every house you want to, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know anyone there, that’s the point of a smoker, to go and meet some of the brothers. Most will take down your contact info and send out messages about picking you up on north for night events or whatever else is going on. They’ll want to get to know you as much as you want to get to know them. With so many houses there is a house for everyone, don’t limit yourself when going to smokers.

oldfort- im a rho gamma so im not on house arrest in my chapter ;)

aaaand im also not locked in studio so YAYY haha

i made the mistake of not checking the dorm opening times and came a day earlier. now im staying in a motel…sigh

very excited for rush though, but a bit nervous too

wow that sucks. ill be on my way back in half a day

So if I went to a smoker at a house today, do I go to any more smokers at that house or do I just go to the night events?

And just how selective are places about giving out bids?

It’s always good to go to more smokers to make sure the house sees that you have a real interest and during contacts you can always express that. As for the selectivity it depends on the house, smaller houses tend to be less selective because they need to fill numbers.

would it be weird to go to a smoker at a house for the first time on thursday?

No, it wouldn’t be weird. If you’re interested in finding out about that house, you should definitely go.

My D is going thru the rush process and she says that when you list your preferences, you don’t put them in any specific order. I was wondering why you would not put them in order from your top choice on down… Thanks.

you do the top choice down during the final round, when you have narrowed it down to 3, just because it is so hard to rank 11 houses in your preference order

Thank you CU!

so then how exactly does the bid process work. for example I know my D will rank the last 3 houses in order of preference, but what happens on the other side with the houses and how is it determined which will give her a bid?

It’s a mutual selection process. Obviously your D will rank the appropriate number of chapters after each round and each chapter ranks every girl who comes through the house. There is a nifty computer system that looks at each list (your D’d and the chapter’s) and then the list of chapters your D will be invited back to is generated.

After the preference round…your D ranks (in order) her top 3 and each chapter ranks (in some order) the girls who came to the preference round. The computer system then looks at the ranks and if there is a mutual selection…your D will get a bid.
