Cornell stereotypes true?

ok this is going to sound stupid but can a socialist hippie (or what a lot of people consider the steroetypical brown student) fit in at cornell? I think I'm going there but the whole frat life preppy scene seems like it'll clash with my personality. I know it has a diverse student body but I've been in the catholic school system for four years now and I want to go to a school where I can find like-minded people if that makes sense.

I don’t think these are your “type” of people. Maybe while you are there you can work to ban preppies and then eliminate the frats. its a shame that its so hard to find like-minded people.

Brown University student or “brown” student? ? What?

I live in Ithaca and work in Cornell’s collegetown, so I interact with the students constantly. Trust me, a so-called “socialist hippie” will fit right into the Ithaca scene. It’s true that there exists a number of stereotypically “preppy” kids, but I’m sure the same can be true anywhere. Ithaca is a very laid-back, “hippie” community.

Rest assured there are many socialist hippies at Cornell and in Ithaca. Not to worry. This is a very progressive campus and town.

That helped and was reassuring lol. Thanks! :)

btw i meant brown university student*

Few schools are filled with only one type of student. The stereotypes you allude to are just that-stereotypes. Brown university attracts students who like a progressive approach to education but many different types of people like that approach. Regardless, I am guessing the op hasn’t spent much time in Ithaca. Ithaca is filled with people who are about as far from “preppy” as possible.

That stereotype is not really true of Brown students so I suspect you will find the same true for Cornell–although that stereotype isn’t something I’ve heard myself.
