Cornell the Dream School!

So I logged onto the internet and came across an article on the Netscape home page that ranks the top ten Dream Schools for Students. Despite the myths, the hardcore reputation, and the weather, Cornell made #8! Who would have thought!?

New York University

Harvard University

Stanford University

Yale University

Princeton University

Columbia University

Duke University

Cornell University

Brown University

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

I would have thought that warm places like USC or Pomona would make it. Guess we’re so good, we can still have the snow and be on the Dream Team!

Interesting

I know rankings don't matter, but I love to hear things like that.

ditto.....

Come, what's a little (LOL) snow compared to everything else at Ithaca? Heh heh...

dude, the snow rocks. whose gonna build a huge jump at the bottom of libe slope with me?

i'm in .

I'm from MN. Count me in.

sparticus...

you better find me on campus!!! I plan to bring down several snow tubes. To ease the hassle of blowing all of them up, i purchased an electric pump last winter. Oh yes, it is amazing. And oh yes, there will be amazing fun to be had in the snow.

FYI, just to let people know, the snow is never the worst part of winter. It's the most fun part. It's the cold and wind that'll get to ya. I live in Syracuse, I believe the snowiest city in the US, so i've had plenty of experience with snow and cold. But, before you know it, it's over with and beautiful out!

the hardest part is taking that first few steps outside your door, still half asleep. it will wake any dead person ;-)

yeah, my dad told me about this article, and the only thing i could think of was olsen twins...

olsen twins and NYC are a pretty big draw, you must admit!

who needs tubes? they don't call it "traying" for nothing. And I was implyingto make it for skis and boards, but hey, tubes are all good.

Leigh: big jump at bottom of big hill means alot of air ;)

i've found that tubes are the best. I have sleds, skis, and boards. But, after 19 years of experience, i'd def. have to say tubes are the best.

haha, as you wish!

Adam-

Ah... LOL okay. I guess that's what I get for living on the equator for the last 1/3 of my life. Sounds like fun though so count me in... next year!

Brown over MIT? I have a hard time believing that one...

raven, I think "decadence" is a greater factor here than "prestige"...

[quote]
Dictionary.com
decadence
n : the state of being degenerate in mental or moral qualities

OR

A process, condition, or period of deterioration or decline, as in morals or art; decay.

often Decadence A literary movement especially of late 19th-century France and England characterized by refined aestheticism, artifice, and the quest for new sensations.

What are you talking about??

NYU is fun but I would've hated to go there for ugrad

one of my good friends goes to NYU and he absolutely loves it. Buuuuut, for undergrad, the city would be too much of a distraction to me. Until grad school, i'll stick to lovely Ithaca.

LOL by that I mean the potential to "have fun" while in college is a pretty big consideration here. Indulging in good food (Cornell!), clubbing or frat parties (NYU or Cornell again comes to mind), or maybe just having a laidback "country club style" campus (Stanford) all have a slight decadent slant to them.

MIT on the other hand has gained a reputation, whether justified or not, for being a place of extremely tough and stressful academics. So it's a great school, yes, but I think its reputation has led to many thinking that it's not all that "fun"... BUT I'd say a lot of this list has to do with reputation/rumours more than fact.
