I am considering to transfer to Cornell next fall (currently at UVA) into the College of Human Ecology, largely because their Human Development and PAM majors pertain to what I want to do more so than what my current institution offers in that department, a more condensed environment.
I have completed/will have completed the required coursework, via AP scores and my first semester classes at UVA. However, I am concerned about making sure my other classes here transfer credit-wise. I have looked at the website and to look at the course catalog, but how can I be sure that the syllabus, content matches? Does anyone have experience in how generous Cornell is with this? If anyone transferred from UVA especially that would be very helpful
For reference, I am NOT a guaranteed transfer (I made the mistake of not applying to Cornell last year).
when accepting credits, they didnt even look at my syllabuses because they had students in the past transfer. they assumed the curriculum would be the same so I wouldn’t worry about it. They’re pretty generous with this. I also know a UVA student who transferred.
Thank you! Do you know if the UVA student transferred to HumEc? I’m trying to figure out what courses to take next semester, if my transfer went through.
I think the UVA student was in CHE. I’m not too sure. Or in CALS but I’m leaning on CHE? I think the only courses that may not transfer as easily will be the writing seminars. They’re a little stingy on those. You should email the CHE department if they will accept the syllabuses. They’re pretty nice.
But in general, try to take courses such as Intro to Biology I or Intro to psych. Those courses would best fit and they’re ubiqitious in a lot of colleges
Also, they do take AP scores but know that there is a max (around 15 credits I think?). And for me I think the credits transferred easily because I took those intro courses rather than obscure ones that only a single college may have
Thank you for your help!! I might end up messaging you with more questions later on Do you know what caused the UVA student to transfer by chance? Were they a GT?
no idea lol. But in general people have transfered because cornell is more well known, their old school was too big, their old school just didnt fit them, stuff like that.
yeah, those are in line with why i’m thinking about it too. what is the social life like for transfers? is it hard for them to integrate/make friends? i’m pretty worried about that
