Hello,
I am looking to transfer to Cornell for Fall 2019. I sent an email to the head of the psychology department in the College of Arts and Sciences, but did not ever get a response about my question. It seems that Cornell does not have very specific pre-reqs for psychology transfers, as on their website I didn’t really find any info that helped me. Maybe someone here can offer some advice on what they think, in terms of how eligible I am for meeting the pre-reqs necessary for the psychology major.
So far, in CC, I have completed/will complete by end of Spring:
2 semesters of English (101 and 205)
2 semesters of Math (College algebra and behavioral science statistics WITH a lab)
1 semester of Science with a lab (currently taking General Bio)
Other general eds such as astronomy, philosophy, interpersonal communications, geography, but basically everything involving the IGETC pattern that California community colleges follow for transferring to our UC/CSU schools.
For my major: Psych 101, Career Opportunities in Psychology, Lifespan Development, Physiological Psychology, Psychology of Learning (also known as cognitive/behavioral psych), and Intro to Research Methods.
(Side note: I was a dance major freshman year so many dance classes on my record as well along with the above courses!)
I will be “graduating” CC with an Associate’s Degree for Transfer in Psychology, if that helps anything.
I believe I saw on the website that they look for 60 units of psychology?! I’m wondering how they can hold everyone to that standard, as my school probably doesn’t even offer enough psych classes to even add up to 60 units worth. And anyway, it would also be next to impossible to do 60 units worth of strictly psych in two years unless you took NO GE’s.
I will be transferring with 73 total units, 20 of which are strictly psychology (any course with “PSYC” in the course title).
Does what I have completed sound adequate, to those of you who might know?
