@mackyg Thomas Jefferson is life
@mackyg To protect a layman’s right to speak as he wishes and to approve/disapprove of what he/she says are two different concepts of the American Culture. Anyway, good luck to everyone that’s waiting for decisions like me lol.
@ccola what did the email say?
@mdchang99 You also apply for CS in CAS here too lol?
@ALLCAPS24 Lol nope, i applied to CALS for Enviro Eng. You spotted the Jefferson head pretty quickly lol.
Yeah lol. Why did you switch up majors? @mdchang99
Cornell needs to stop playing all these games and send out LLs/admissions letters or update our portal with good news ASAP!!!
@mdchang99 “select admit students” could translate to URMs
i dont know it just seems really apparent that from past threads every URM who gets in received the email
so if im a URM and i dont get an LL does that mean i probably didnt get accepted?
@phoenixsa Nowhere does it say all admitted URMs get likely letters. In fact, a URM at my school was admitted last year and did NOT receive a likely letter. No one should expect a likely letter – they are very rare. From what I’ve been able to deduce, income and first-generation status also affect whether you get a likely letter. Regardless, do not be disheartened if you do not get a likely letter – most people don’t.
Huh. So if you were low income you could be eligible of a likely letter? @thebeccster1
Likely letters are hard to come by no matter what your situation is. Yes, URM’s have been known to receive one for Cornell diversity and such but that does not mean ALL URM’s that are admitted will get one. To get a LL, you still have to be a very exceptional candidate that Cornell wants to attract. It’s not as if they read your application, decide to accept you, and then check that you’re a URM so they can put you on a LL list.
Anyone can get a likely letter there are no requirements but it mainly is athletes. Only a small portion of the accepted students will get LL but one characteristic or factor doesn’t mean you’re in the running to get one.
Just to confirm Human Ecology doesnt do likely letters right
3/15…do you guys think letters will be sent out today? what about for SHA and ILR
I signed up just so I can maybe give you guys clarity on “likely letters”…
My daughter received her acceptance letter via mail on March 3rd…It was postmarked on March 1st. It was not a likely letter but an acceptance letter. She also received an email on March 6 congratulating her on her admission to ILR and save the dates for Cornell Days or the Diversity Hosting program. On March 9th, I received a parent congratulatory letter and a “Cornell Parent” bumper sticker.
FYI: My daughter showed great interest in the ILR School and was in constant contact via email with the Dean of Admissions there. I believe that is what made the difference. Some of her stats are:
GPA: 3.96 UW/ 4.43 W
SAT: 1360/1600
RANK: 10/244
RACE: AA
She is Senior Class President, VP of Model UN, Prosecutor for Mock Trial, Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Semi-finalist (She notified the Dean of this), Carson Scholar, Cheerleader, Parliamentarian of NHS, Viola (First Chair) and belongs to a few other clubs. She has also earned many academic awards.
I hope this answers many of your concerns.
Congrats to your D @URasSMART!
Thanks…This one made her cry. I think it’s because she wasn’t expecting it.
I got a diversity likely!!
