@allima yes, I got one. I don’t think that it’s that definitive though. From their website, 400 people are contacted but I know that out of the couple thousand they accept each year, a good chunk of them are URM. So it wouldn’t make sense that only 400 URMs got in. But, personally, I would call them tomorrow and ask them what’s up (without dropping your name).
@allima I am URM, and upper middle class (By Nigerian Standards), and didnt get an LL or Diversity Letter
My daughter is a URM (puerto rican) and did not get a likely letter / diversity email. I will post again on March 30th and let you know if she was rejected… she applied to CAS. I’m curious to know the income bracket of those that got the diversity invites though and wonder if that’s a factor since Cornell pays for the student to come and visit & im sure they want to try and get as many students as possible to visit the school and attend once they are admitted. In our situation she would be considered upper middle class and we do not live far from the University (a few hour drive). Regardless, I will post back and let everyone know.
250k+. I don’t believe income is a factor
@gunkers not on my end yet…still hopeful… just come out these darn letters :((
Did anyone get a women in engineering likely?
@allima Please reread other responses you have received. The people who use collegeconfidential do NOT represent every Cornell applicant. Also, think about this: the three types of likely letters that Cornell ALWAYS sends are 1) for athletes, 2) for women in engineering, and 3) for URMs. Likely letters are RARE. Only ~5-10% of ADMITTED STUDENTS were accepted through a likely letter. It’s illogical to think that every single URM that gets into Cornell got a diversity likely letter.
@phoenixsa See above! Likely letters are blown out of proportion on CC. You’re not supposed to expect them. They’re rare.
You know, given the high intelligence of most collegeconfidential users, I’m surprised at everyone’s inability to read/Google. These questions have been answered multiple times in multiple threads.
@GRVDU8SHUN You are so kind! Thank you for helping me stay hopeful!
I read somewhere that they only accept around 50 students for architecture, very competitive. Does anyone know if that’s true?
@kslinky very true…thats why i was just praying to get one of these darn diversity letters lol…the programme is so competitive
Silly question…but Id like to confirm if you are also applying for architecture aap? I did!
@davidoe ok thanks, I guess we won’t get our hopes up. My d applied to AAP, major architecture. Was there another option?
@kslinky Did you mean to ask if there are any architecture related courses aside from the BArch programme? Yes…she could have chosen to major in History of Art or Architecture. The only thing is that History of Architecture is solely for transfer students. Also, at AAP ,there are other major concentrations such as Planning (Urban and Regional Planning) and Fine Arts. I personally chose the BArch programme because I have a clear vision of what I want to study and I intend to get a Masters in Environmental Studies so that I can help to tackle the impending Housing deficit in Nigeria and create sustainable (environmentally sustainable) designs for Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria and Climate Refugees!
@wannabetrojann yes.
@DavidOE she just chose general Architecture under AAP. Oh wow that’s amazing! You’ll definitely get a spot first. She wants to work for Disney and build amusement park rides and structures and create at the happiest place on earth! Still waiting on 5 more schools, but she will probably go to UF. :>
@kslinky hope so…thanks i am waiting on 5 schools too!
For everyone with broken links, I just got another email and the links are fixed so check your inboxes!
Yes - my s got a ll and is not applying for financial aid.
They sent out invites to admitted student events for RD students today. In those invites it says “you WILL be admitted to Cornell”. Me and a friend from my school got them so it’s lit. Has anyone else seen them?
EDIT: my friend and I are both upper middle class with 1500+ SAT scores. He is not a URM, but I am, if that info helps anyone who’s wondering
Triple edit:
I got an engineering letter AND a URM letter. My friend is a white male, so naturally he didn’t get a URM letter. I also think income played no role, because we’d both be considered high income
lol my hopes are down the drain
@sweatearl, congratulations. What school at Cornell for you? Your friend? What major?
