@allima 1) again, if you do not get a LL then don’t freak out because you could be shooting yourself in the foot and 2) I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but you cannot truly expect anything when admission rates are so low. Although you got into better colleges, there is no way in predicting what Cornell wants because only a handful of people get admitted. I know it sucks to think that way, but it’s realistic. I wouldn’t stop thinking though that you have the chance of getting in because considering you are into better schools, you probably have a chance at Cornell!
sorry its just kinda hard to think that i would even still have a chance since EVERY URM IS GETTING LLs. i know im freaking out but this was my favorite school, so sorry!
I feel the same…I think it’s a pretty good bet if you didn’t get a LL today and your a URM it’s not good news
I know this is kind of a vague question (perhaps even stupid) but is being a first generation college student considered an URM? Ethnicity wise, I am NOT an URM (I’m white), but I saw someone say being first gen could count.
To put it into perspective a little bit more: both of my parents attended community college but did NOT get their associate’s degrees. I was pondering on the thought. I did not get an LL, so I’m feeling a little bit hopeless. However, is my reason for such a feeling valid?
@ everyone who didn’t get likely letters: there’s also a selection bias as to the people who are on college confidential; they tend to be more accomplished/driven than the general applicant pool. you guys should be fine. from what I can tell, around fifteen - twenty people on this thread received diversity letters (& for WiE, I’ve seen around five?). if you compare cornell’s size to, say, harvard’s size (around ten? people on the harvard thread have gotten likely letters), you’d actually expect more people on here to say they’ve gotten LLs. cornell is still going to accept plenty of people on the regular day, so I wouldn’t worry–just wait it out knowing that you put your best out there.
@jeerzgirl Which fashion major did you apply to? I applied for Fashion Management and I have only received an email in early March saying I can email the HumanEc admissions committee any additional information that I want them to consider.
if im a URM and didnt receive a likely letter is it probably because im very upper class economically?
I applied fashion merchandising
Did you recieve a similar email that allowed for additional information? It was very curious considering the supplement was so long. @jeerzgirl

I received my likely letter at 5:18pm EST about women in engineering and I’m asian. I’ve just heard about this today when I got the email and I’m still kind of unsure after doing some research on what a LL is. My letter didn’t directly say that I was accepted, just that it’s likely. Is it safe to assume that I’m going to get in or is there a chance that I will get my hopes up and end up rejected/waitlisted?
To all you guys that received LL today congrats to each and every one of you. I know you’ve work so hard. I wish I was in your shoes but to those of us that didn’t we also have worked very hard and good things come to those who wait …
@maylightxo from what I understand, a likely letter means that you’ve been accepted–they just can’t give you official notice until Ivy Day. So yes, it’s safe to assume you’re going to get in!
If you sign up for the Diversity days, does that mean you’re agreeing to attend Cornell?
did any LLs go to URMs that are upper-middle class?
@allima I got a likely letter (upper middle class) and a girl at my school with lower stats (also upper middle class) got a likely letter. I don’t know for sure, but I think they sent them to all admitted URM. If you don’t mind me asking, which equal/more prestigious schools did you get into?
is it true that URM that did not receive a LL today will be waitlisted/rejected?
@anaheim URM can still get accepted on the 30th
@kalons I think URM essentially refers to being African American, Native American, or Hispanic. So I think there’s a chance your decision is coming out on the 30th, so don’t worry!
