****Cornell University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

@USUG21 yeah i don’t think asians in general count as URM lmao

For those who received the letter about the diversity hosting and are still confused on what it means: it is considered a likely letter but upon calling into the Cornell office I found out that we will be admitted for sure. We will receive the mailed packets and the online decision on the 30th which is the “official” acceptance.

So even though it says “your admittance packet is in the mail” we will not receive it until the 30th?

Congratulations to everyone who received their diversity invites!! I did the quick math like Lillyfield (above) suggested and the percentage of URM’s at Cornell is about 20% total which means not everyone got a Diversity Invite- only about 25%. For those of you who received them, YOU DESERVED IT! don’t second guess your abilities - you may not have that perfect ACT - but then again, your parents maybe didn’t shell out the $5000 on private tutor’s to help you get that perfect ACT. I am a (mother) URM and a first gen- I put myself through law school- I am Federal Attorney and most of my colleagues are Ivy kids. I went to a public law school. My colleagues are fantastic people and not pretentious at all- you are all just as capable as they are. If you got in, you can succeed! My daughter has IVY dreams…we shall see if it works out for her. Regardless, she has wonderful opportunities at a great state school if it does not. good luck everyone!

For everyone who wants admission statistics on Cornell dating back to its conception please visit this website http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/ . I just got information from an AAP undergraduate officer whom I mailed about a week or two weeks ago concerning the likely letters and statistics on Architecture AAP enrollment and offers of admission.

I found out from this email that Likely letters and Diversity letters are soeley handled by the general admissions office at Cornell, not the individual sub colleges like AAP or CALS or ILR etc.

@kslinky You may want to check out the link I sent above (http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/) because there is full statistical data on the number of undergraduate enrollments at the AAP’S college of Architecture!

@gsaw128 yes you will receive the packet around the 30th near the same time the decisions come out online.

@zampa21 you said you got in on ivy day (not via diversity hosting LL). are you a URM?

@allima nope. But my academic friends are all URM.

Now I’m just confused because my letter didn’t specifically say that I got in. Does this mean I got in or not?

“I am writing to let you know how much the Cornell Engineering Admissions Committee enjoyed reading your application. Your academic and personal achievements are outstanding and, although the Ivy League schools will not officially notify students of their admission decisions until the end of the month, I am pleased to inform you that you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell.”

@Dubudubu yes,you got in

Did any HumanEc applicants who are non URM/international receive a likely/admissions letter?

@cornellplzhaveme That is the most important and real question on this thread at the moment
I’m in the same position :frowning:

I applied RD to the College of Arts and Sciences and it says on my app status that “Toward the end of the month we will update this message to indicate when the decision notification process will begin”; what’s this about people getting admission decisions today? Is it only for a special program?

Also what is this about a “likely admissions letter”? How does that work? Thanks guys.

There are multiple explanations of likely letters earlier in this thread. Also, if you google “what is a likely letter” there is a really good article but the “dean” of college confidential @Scholar1917

some colleges send top applicants a “likely letter” to inform them that they will be accepted ahead of the formal decisions date! cornell sent theirs out on Wednesday; most of them went out to select URMs and women in engineering, although there have been a few reports of people who are neither getting likely letters as well.

Thanks for the information. Still nervous as can be. Got denied by Northwestern today but they did so while saying I was “qualified” to go there (don’t know if it’s for every applicant or not) so fingers crossed for Cornell!

I got the diversity letter and to clarify, this means that I am guranteed to get in? Also, what does it mean? Why did I receive this? (Besides being a diversity student, is there any other criteria?)

I got the diversity letter for the College of A&S. I’m a URM (latina). Still have not received acceptance by mail but email indicated it was on its way.

wait… i thought everyone gets likely letters from Cornell?
